Tire/bearing install cost???

Just got some new tires/wheel bearings for the 04 chopper - 90 front and 250 rear (Thanks to Curtis)

Question is what is fair to have them installed - labor only???
Oh yeah and install new bearings while rims are off (front and rear)----

One local "chopper service" shop - where I was getting work done before I started doing my own, quoted 4 hours labor - $95/hr - $380
This seems crazy to me - as the front tire cant be more then 30 min??

Got another local chopper shop quoted 2 hours???

Just curious what others have experienced previously??

Are they taking the wheels off the bike or are you carrying them in with the tires and bearings? Don't forget the front bearings have seals also.

2 hours for both tires and both rear and front bearings is what I would expect. 4 hours is ridiculous unless your not taking the wheels off yourself.

2 hours is a little much but not by too much more they are going to hit you up for a little extra time cause you aren't buying product from them. Actually my local shop now refuses to mount tires not purchased through them they claim liability purposes.

I was going to have them remove wheels from bike- just because I wasn't expecting such high prices to do so???
I mean, whats the front tire - 5 minutes total remove/install??

Oh yea, I did also get new dust seals for front wheel as well.

I was honestly thinking 1 hour labor - maybe 2 at very most. But when the one guy came back at 4, I was like - wtf?? smh

Yeah Harley wouldn't do it because I already bought tires- not sure what additional liability there is on brand new sticker tires, but??

And you believe one of biggest Harley dealers on the planet - destination Daytona Harley - wont change my oil, because they wont service Big Dog motorcycles that were purchased there- so the service department told me yesterday.

But i'm looking forward to seeing the owner at saints and sinners one evening during bikeweek and questioning this as I only live 10 minutes from there - smh

I bought a tire changed myself once they refused to mount a tire I bought online considering the tire from them is +$100 for the rear and $80 for the front it was a no brainer it will pay for itself soon and I've already changed two years and two fronts. Need to do the another rear.

If you do not have a shop manual, you need to get one, removing wheels and replacing bearings is not that hard. you will need a jack, I have a otc stinger which if 3 1/2 inches from ground and when you stand bike up it slides right under. you could also do tires but can be harder to do. with manual you will have torque spec. etc. to do job right, a lot of this is right here in how to do section. I most cases you will do a better job. sorry just my 2 cents worth.

Hell no. That guy is like 85 if you bring tires. It is actually in St Paul, The Sled Shack. I am getting my Roadstar tires replaced. Will post up when done.

Oh okay I just knew high energy cause I pass bye it all the time riding out of town never stopped bye cause never saw any bikes outside I'd like and looked like a small retail shop anyways.

Since you started to work on it yourself, I would take the wheels off the bike and remove the hubs and just have them press the new bearings in and change the tires, Then you can clean things up good and put it back together so you know the torque specs and Loctite is correct. That would save ya some coin but I don't think 3-4 hrs for them to do all that is unreasonable however it adds up fast at $95/hr.

Yep x2 if your not removing the rims 2 hours is kinda quick 3-4 sounds better like Ker said if they got the whole bike.

I read it to quick before I thought you were just taking them the rims not the whole bike
