I think your jackshaft it broke or may be loose. Make sure the bolt is tight and seated. If it is tight remove your starter jackshaft to see if it is snapped. Really easy to do and plenty of diagrams to show the internals. I am in no way trying to undercut our vendors but it’s a pretty simple fix.

What year bike? It looks prior to 05? I will recommend going with an ultima starter. I have now ties to ultima just 2 bikes that I use them in and by far have outperformed more expensive staters that I have used.

I took it to a local starter/alternator shop and the gentlemen said it was the clutch. He fixed it. I installed the starter and seems to be working fine, however, since is a 2004 I'm thinking I will upgrade to a newer starter soon anyways.

No need for an upgrade on an 04, thats a standard Harley starter, no upgrades were made until 05 and up ..
