Input shaft bearing

Well all my work in the primary is finished and the whirring noise comming from there still exist. It seem better than it was but still there. My new question is dose the transmission need to come out to replace the input bearing? Or can I change it by pulling the primary apart again.

I'm pretty sure you have to pull the tranny as it is pressed in. @KaptinAmerika might know, I think he was rebuilding them and might still be. Is there play in it? Are you SURE it's the tranny? Not the belt or a pulley or the heads/cam...could be a lot of things. Hate to see you throw parts at it.

I'm pretty sure its the bearing on the input shaft. I had the primary apart over the weekend replacing the clutch basket , clutch hub & hub bearing. I also replaced the clutch pushrod. While everything was apart I was spinning the input shaft and could hear a slight intermittent grinding. I put everything back together and the noise is still there. It's better than it was but still there. It's a whirring noise. When in neutral there is no noise. When you pull the clutch it starts whirring. It is also there on decell every time you shift down a gear it seems to get louder. The throw out bearing was replaced also. It's getting a little late in the season for me to be pulling the trans. I'll probably be putting it up for the winter within the next month. I guess it will be a project for the spring.

Was there any movement from the main shaft?

No play side to side just a grinding noise.

Double check your upper motor mount bolt

You don’t happen to have a plunger (push button) on your solenoid?

Motor mount is good and there isn't a button on solenoid.

If you replace the bearing in the tranny housing you really should have the puller tool made to to pull the bearing, some have tried in the past to press it out and they broke the tranny housing, that's an expensive mistake.

I just had a similar noise coming from my primary before changing the pressure plate, throwout bearing, spring and the tensioner pad, adjusted the chain which had about 1-1/2" of slack in it, put it all together and no more noise, personally I think it was the throwout bearing cause it only did it when I pulled in the clutch.
