According to the Big Dog website:
"The 2017 model lineup is the pinnacle of 23 years of experience in the motorcycle manufacturing business. Among the many updates to the lineup, the most notable include updated and completely re-designed electronic systems, a bulletproof transmission, and employing the largest production motor ever to be placed within the confines of a Big Dog frame— the S&S 124."

I assume most own a a pre-2017 model (I know a new one is out of my financial reach), I'd be curious to revisit this thread after a while to see if anyone with a 2017 model can opine on reliability

But... I wouldn't want to finance the wardrobe, work-out, makeup, manicure, tanning booth, collagen, etc etc etc :oldhardlaugh:

I had a 98' Suzuki Intruder 1400 v-twin with 14000 miles on it and only changed oil, tires, brakes and battery's on it, and I ran the piss outta it and never had to work on it regularly.:whoop::chopper:

In my opinion Wires Plus is about the worst replacement system there is. In a day it was the only one there was, now there are far better options. ... Not sure if Wires Plus even exists anymore... you can find all about them with search...

I agree with Kevin. If you're willing and able to spend $7500 I would hold out and keep searching. For another $2-4K you can get a much newer Dog.

I find myself unable to resist the allure of the BDM any longer. I've decided on a pitbull. I want to stay under 10k, closer to 5 if I can.
I understand I should stay away from 05 and 06s (the majority of the ones up for sale coincidentally (or not) are those two years).
In keeping with the goal of "minimizing headaches" should I be looking <=04 or >=07?

I´d say >07

Mine is an 06 but I did (spent $$$) in upgrading it. starter shaft, trans shaft, S&S Rocker Boxes, and other bits like EHC, Ignition, Cam, etc. etc. which you will end up doing (eventually) to an 07 and up anyways.

Go 2007 and newer. Whichever style you like best (chopper or pro street) can be had for 10k. Just be patient and keep watching. Eventually one will pop up. I just saw a 2008 Ridgeback in Indiana for 8k. My mouth watered lol.
