Hey all,
Reading through my 2007 service manual & in the triple trees section there is reference to a BDM K-9 & Daytek K9. Can someone tell me what the difference is between the two ?

Thanks,
Dave.

I was asking Chris and Matt a few weeks back why Eric and I had different swing arms, he looked at my frame and explained that bdm had quite a few recalls on their frames and it was costing them more then it was to have daytek make their frames. So they stopped using their own frames all together on the k9 and chopper

Rolling Thunder was the other chopper frame ... Noted as "RT"
Yeah they had rt and fb were the other frames.. but Chris told me that about 70 percent were daytek, about 20 were bdm and a mix between fb (fat baggers) and rolling thunder were the small mixture of the others.

huh, this was news to me. thought the multiple manufacturers only came in to play with the "Chopper". turns out mine is Daytek. all this time i thought mine was made in house. thanks for the info.

It was news to me too Tom.. I was just curious about a few minor differences I noticed between our frames and got schooled over a few beers.. lol they said they had no recalls on the daytek frame which made it the best bet to use.

I'm also suspecting the Daytec frames have the removable neck cups...where the in-house ones do not.

i would usually go out to the garage about now and check that, but right now, somebody is throwing cats and dogs at the roof of my house.

got a chance to go out and check, and, yes it does have removable cups.

Negative, only the early k9 frames were Ben, the later ones were daytek

The easiest way is to look at the axle covers on the swing arm - if they are elongated circles like most frames, then it's Daytec. The BDM frames covers looked like a tent and are slightly triangulated. Look at this link and you see the difference:

The ones on top are BDM - the lower pix are Daytec
Those r just cover options brother.. yes the swing arms were different as to why and where this came up between Eric n I. His swing arms lower bar has an inward curve as to where both my bars were straight.. the inverted curved arms are BDM frames and the straight ones are Daytek. That came straight from Chris and Matt over a few beers before VINs were even checked and they explained to me how to tell by vin.. just some knowledge for ya brother.

I know those are cover options in the pix - lol. The fact is they are not interchangeable - Daytec and BDM won't fit the other. The distance between the screws and offset is different. To the novice, a quick and dirty way to know is look at the cover - easy to spot regardless of design on the cover. Bob at BDM told me this back in 06 when I asked how to differentiate the two....
