Buyer beware ...wheel bearings

Noticed this today on fleabay. A guy selling what he calls "Premium" wheel bearings. There is nothing "premium" about these for wheel bearings.

These have a metal shield and not meant to be ran anywhere that dirt or water comes in contact with. You might think the metal seal has to be better than rubber, right? Wrong! Because it's metal and can't possibly be completely sealed so there is provisions for water and dust to intrude into the bearing. The metal shield bearings also carry a lower RPM rating I suspect due to heat buildup, but I'm sure the guy selling these never looker at a bearing spec sheet.

Stick with the OEM rubber seals.

That's good stuff! Thank you, I was going to do those while my bike is being fixed at the shop. (Have him do it while wheel was off) I've been buying the parts and dropping them off. It's quite possible I would have bought these.

One of the old ones.
Thanks Eric....Should have known that, but didn't realize it until you pointed it out. Makes perfect sense.
How the hell can one guy ever know everything to avoid this kind of charlatan (read that: asshole). And when the bearing fails and some poor mutt gets mangled, he'll get sued, and when tha hapens, he folds up the 'company' and disappears....
i love this Forum.

Here's a better pic to show the gap in the seal and housing...water and dirt will find its way in there. The shield does not contact the inner bearing race at all.
