Best penetrating Oils!

Well this was interesting I thought! Gonna have to start mixing my own shit!

Otherwise I'll also be ditching the PB Blaster for the Liquid Wrench.

.
They arranged a subjective test of all the popular penetrants with the control being the torque required to remove the nut from a “scientifically rusted” environment.

Penetrating oil ….. Average load

None …………………. 516 pounds

WD-40 ……………….. 238 pounds

PB Blaster ………….. 214 pounds

Liquid Wrench …….. 127 pounds

Kano Kroil …………… 106 pounds

ATF-Acetone mix…….53 pounds

The ATF-Acetone mix was a “home brew” mix of 50 – 50 automatic transmission fluid and acetone.

Note the “home brew” was better than any commercial product in this one particular test.

Our local machinist group mixed up a batch and we all now use it with equally good results.

Note also that “Liquid Wrench” is about as good as “Kroil” for about 20% of the price.

Interesting..wouldn't want to be using an acetone mix tho..
I've got to replace some ujoints on the truck this weekend this is why I was looking at it. I'd have no problem mixing acetone and ATF and putting it on the steering knuckle bolts.

However you need a metal Can to mix/store/spray. The liquid wrench was interesting though.

True, I was thinking more along the lines of the scoot.
Oh yea..definitely not! To be honest with ya I don't know why you ever need penetrating oil on a MC tires begin with. You got serious problems of ya do. I've never used it.

Sorry should have mentioned first.

Dissimilar metals...stainless bolts going into aluminum, this will cause galvanic corrosion. Many bikes have aluminum parts with stainless fasteners. So you would run into the need for penetrating oil on MC..

Interesting post Eric. noticed you can read the article too. Cool methodology.
Yes... I like to make sure I have credible sources.

I saw the post on about 80 different forums but it seemed suspect I wanted to find the original article it took awhile. Didn't want to be caught with my pants down not a great look.

When you gonna give it a try?
Dunno..on the ATF trick.

I've sprayed the steering knuckle with PB blaster the last few nights gonna give them a good spray a few more times before I swap them out Saturday. I've never had the passenger side knuckle off before and I've owner the truck a while. Driver side ujoint I had replaced about 80k ago. It must have been replaced before I bought the truck because I noticed it has GMP stamped on it.

Mr. Wright

Knows some things
Yea, that an old time recipe. Works really good. If I have some really rusty bolts, or a broke off stud in an exhaust manifold I'll mix up some of that. I mainly use PB Blaster, and thought it was the cats meow, but I found some spray made by Shaffer's that's even better.
