is voltage 13.5 at idle ok?

been having some charging issues, flasher coming on while riding, speedo and tach went blank.
battery 6 months old 310 CCA rated, did not do load test
08 K9
volt meter reads 13.5 at idle and 13.8 when I rev it up
stater reading was about 22 volts AC at idle and went up to 50 when I revved it.

Sounds great actually, but it does sound as if u are having an issue with ur control boards. My bike idles at about 12 even and about 13.9 to 14 while driving.. so voltage ur good

On iddle that is OK and it depends how full your battery is... yet, testing voltage with "cool" VR may not tell the whole truth... my problem manifested only when VR was hot... new VR costing around $80 I decided next time I just buy new even if I even suspect it...

Voltage while idling sounds good, but you should really have the battery load tested. Even though your voltage is good running the battery might not be taking the charge for it to build up and that's when things start to do what your experiencing. The other possibility is not what you want to hear but possibly the ECH.
But load test the battery first, my voltage is 13.5 idling to 14.4 riding down the road

True Story, I got a nice chrome voltage regulator for 76 bucks shipped to me just to find out I didn't need it.. so I got an extra.. lol

I went to the cycle electric web site, they mention that 13.8 is minimum voltage required to maintain battery charge.
mine didnt go above 13.8 when revved to 4000
reading was 12.8 without engine running.
test was done with full charge, ( on battery tender for 2 weeks)

i will take in to have it load tested to be sure

I would think that should have been in the 14's revved that high, might wanna get a voltage regulator also as Tapio said. But I would still do the load test, a lot of prople are having problems lately with battery's, even brand new ones. Quality is just not there anymore

No I missed the part about your speedo, but the common problems with the controls is the circuit board for the controls, but now I re-read it an saw there were other issues, I would check my ehc.

Possibly...my money is on the VR though. Could be a bad ground on the VR or could be going bad.

First I would unhook it and clean up the area with the ground wire, as it's just grounded through the bolt that holds it onto the frame. It could just be dirty as you don't usually clean that area so ce you can't get to it without removing the VR. Lots of road grime between the frame and VR.

The AC voltage coming out of the stator was good.

battery tested 381 CCA
I will check voltage output from VR further down at the unit to make sure im not loosing voltage some where. then probably order new one
I put this one on 2500 miles ago

Interesting....

I would check the ground as I had mentioned. Also, me personally I replaced both VR and ran the ground back to the battery. I just didn't like how it was grounded to the frame where dirt and stuff collects. Although that works fine too.

Could be worth a shot to run a wire back to the negative on the battery with the VR off the bike and see what you have for voltage when running. Don't make it all neat yet, just as a test. If it works then you can clean it up
