I had my tins painted 3 weeks ago, and when I went to pick them up he was just putting the finishing touches on them, basically compounding them, and the last thing he did was wax them. I asked him about this and he said no problem, I can start putting wax on them right away? I have also heard you should wait, but isn't waxing a part of the finishing process anyway? I had some airbrushing and everything cleared.

FWIW... It seems to be true that it takes a few months for the paint to cure. In fact it took about 3 months after I bought my '06 Pitbull fresh off the assembly line for the handprints underneath the clear coat to oxidize and reveal itself.

At the BD factory

My partner Tony and I tell our personal customers not to wax a paintjob for at least the first year. Because somtimes there are multiple clearings and not waxing for the first year ensures that the painjob can fully breathe and all the solvents can excape so they are not trapped under the clear(causing big problems down the road). At the Big Dog Paintshop after clearing it is sanded, buffed/polished to a perfect shine. Not to be confused with waxing. The polish we use at the BD Factory is the top of the line and made by 3M. I can't think of the exact name right off hand. And then it is finished with wizards. Hope this helps!

Whatever you do....DON"T spray under the seat! Unless you like buying electronics!

I have to drive a mile down a dirt road to get home. I have no choice. I have to wash the dog. I just don't get carried away with the hose. I avoid the seat area, the speedo and all the lights.

is the 3M product called Trizac ? There are different levels of this product. It is usually applied to fresh paint during the final buffing stage. I believe it is part number 6070 or 6060. Does this sound like the 3M product that you use in the BDM paint shop? This Trizac product is prettyy expensive and it must be used with special Trizac 3000 grit discs and a buffer.

TRUE COLORS COLLISION
if you ask 10 people you will get 10 different O P I N I O N S ......
I have painted professionally for 30 years not as a hobby but as a career,so to say the least i have done quite a few cars, bikes, trucks hot rods ect ect ect ,custom and collision, and every one of the vehicles i own ,and after painting and sanding flat and reclearing and sanding flat and buffing and polishing i will wax my shit.... allways have allways will,i have never had any problem whatsoever in doing so,however it is recomended by manufacturers of paint NOT to wax but to use polish for the first 90 days after a fresh paint job,and BIG BLUE is on time recomending the 3m brand polish ,it is blue and called ULTRAFINA outta the 3M PERFECT IT LINE....for 5 solid years everything and i mean everything i painted was wetsanded and buffed and there are no better buffing products out there than 3M most every other company out there helps there products along by adding some silicones and or oils in them so that everything looks great for delivery yet after 2 or 3 washes all wetsand scratches re appear,i have tryed it all and have allways wound up back with 3M and as for wax i use MEGUIARS GOLD CLASS PASTE at like $12 a can it drys to a haze and waxing becomes a 10 minute pleasure instead of a 1/2 day carnuba nightmare,it doesnt streak or leave residue behind and i wax my bike like at least once a week..everytime after i wash it with a hose and water.....just my 2 cents on the subject
