My Reserve is only good for about 1.5 miles... then cough, sputter and a few explitives.

I get 38 mpg aroung town and 51 mpg on the freeway for a long steady ride.

I've learned to gas up ever 125 miles... need the butt break anyway.

All I got to say is THANK GOD FOR RESERVE!
RESERVE! My reserve barely fires my bike back up. But my Gatorade reserve in my bag gets me a few miles
Never pushing my dog again for being out of gas :bang:

For those that spend some distance on the long roads and may want to have that extra bit of fuel in case of finding themselve stuck. I have used (and I think Raywood has also) the MSR Fuel bottles and carried a 22oz bottle in my roll pack.

Have been lucky enough not to have to use it yet, though there was once that it got very close due to pulling in for gas in the middle of NE Tenn and finding the Gas Station was closed. Did manage to make it the extra 15 miles to next gas station opened late at night, but had hit reserve about .25 mile from station.

I get about 10-15 miles on reserve. I've used it often!! Hey...I'm liking the MSR bottle idea. We have a trip in 2 weeks that I've mapped and from what friends say, there's about a 150 mile stretch of gasless highway. Gonna need a bottle or two!

I ran out twice on my Tampa/Daytona/Palm Springs ride. In Daytona a pal of Hoat had the MSR bottle when I ran out and it got me to a gas station.
I ran out in Palm Springs about 500 yards from the station and had to push it!!!

Going to get an MSR bottle for my remaining trip home this week.

:D

For the MSR Bottles, you usually can find them at any good camping store, as well as some of the LL Beam stores will carry, Colemans, Dick's, REI, etc.

May not have all the sizes but 22 oz is the mid size and should get you a few miles. If you are looking at longer streches of questions like TSDAWG was mentioning, you may want to get a couple or at least a larger 33 oz.

Also if you find yourself doing some old style road travel and may find yourself sleeping under the stars, The MSR Whisper Lite International can not be beat and thus you can multi use for the MSR bottles and have something to make that first taste of coffee out on some side spot in the middle of no where.

MSR bottle... real cool. I have one of those style bottles in the cabinet... going to put that in the garage instead. Got it from american eagle one time... made water taste like metal so don't use it. Looks just like those... great idea!!!

TSDAWG, just get one of your bagger buddies to carry a gas can for you.

I can only go about 125 miles and I am getting seriously nervous.

05 RB. 30 miles per gallon. I fill up at around 90 and can go a whole .6 on reserve. I think the most I've gone is 107 before she quit on me.

Damn, I've been 140 miles on a tank before but it wasn't on purpose. Once I realized I forgot to fillup I knew I had to hit the next station and it was right at 140 miles when I pulled in to the station. I usually fill at 100 miles just because that's the common mileage for everyone on the forum.

I wonder if I'm running too lean?
