Strut Bolts

Just curious if anyone has had problems with fender strut bolts breaking. I'm new to the big dog. just bought a 2008 Mastiff and have been reading about recalls for bolts breaking. I plan on riding two up with my wife occasionally. Do I need to be paranoid about the rear fender falling off while going down the road?

Unless you know for sure if they were changed out, I would replace them with grade 8 socket head cap screws
3/8-16 x 1" lg qty-2 chrome or SS
3/8-16 x 1-1/4" lg qty-2 chrome or SS

agree. an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, and all that. can you imagine the beatin' you would get from your wife if she were to fall off and you knew it could happen??????

Hi John. I see you live in Parma. Piston Power Show starts today. I was there setting up yesterday and they have some pretty cool bikes to check out. Just thought I would throw it out there.

Replace them. I had them sheer on my 06 Mastiff with a girl on the back. Said her ass was getting hot. Fender dropped down on the tire and burned through the paint. Ruined the tire and paid $800.00 to have the fender repainted. Real pain in the ass.

IF you use SS you better run them thru a die first OR
THEY WILL ROLL YOUR THREADS OUT!!

SS doesn't have the shear strength of a grade 8

I caution everyone about the SS when replacing bolts both standard and metric!!

No it doesn't, but if you can't get a grade 8 at your local ACE, its an alternative until you get a grade 8

Gonna change mine out when I'm doing the rear tire and bearings.

I have broken quite a few strut bolts to include grade 8. I replace mine every couple years. It's easier than drilling out a broken bolt.
