Hey guys my 2006 K-9 speedo not working intermittenely, what a shocker. When I do 2 mile reset speedo and odometer works fine, when I shut bike down and restart no speedo again, any ideas? Thank you, Mike Toz!

Is it an OEM speedo? Maybe check the plug/connector under the tank, but if its intermittent its probably going, mine started to act like that and I just replaced with a Dakota Digital. The speedo itself does not come apart without ruining it, the chrome bezel on the front is crimped around the housing.
Good luck, lets us know what ya find?

Yes it's Oem, will check, Thank you Guru!
Not really a Guru, that's a title ya get after so many post's, so I guess that makes me a post whore :oldlaugh: but as far as the speedo, many of us have experienced and replaced the speedo.:whoop::chopper:

The other possibility could be the ECH if you still have that, but that's a bit more expensive to replace and it can be tested but that also could be sporadic. But since everything else is working except the speedo, I would lean in the speedo direction.

when you turn the key on, does the speedometer needle do a sweep from 0 to 60 and then back to 0? I'll attach a troubleshooting guide, but it sounds like the Speedometer is NOT 'retaining' the calibration that you are doing....unless you are doing the calibration incorrectly which would also not keep the calibration SET in memory....

Speedometer calibration (short version):
  1. Turn bike off
  2. Push and hold trip button on speedometer
  3. Turn the ignition/Key on
  4. The speedo will flash -_-_- on the screen.
  5. Push the trip button again and you'll get a 0---0 or something like it.
  6. Then ride the bike for 2 miles (NOTE: USE A GPS/Mile marker to make SURE you go a FULL 2 MILES)
  7. Push button again.

Interestingly enough on my stock 04 speed it only sweeps to about 20 MPH then back but still gives me the right speed when running. Never tried the calibration however

But if your speedometer does the sweep, you calibrate it, and it works great until you turn your key off and then on again, YOUR SPEEDOMETER IS FINE....something is just not holding the 'memory' of the calibration.

What else would let speedo lose memory or calibration?
Do NOT overthink like I do a lot....

Did the speedometer work fine before you put the new wiringkit in?

If YES- and it seems to calibrate fine, but then resets....maybe a loose ground or wire.

Picked up a 2003 Pitbull on a trade 9,902 miles on the odometer.
Haven't touched anything, then noticed no odometer reading, speedo works fine.Haven't seen the speedo sweep at start only needle goes below 0 then back to 0.
Looked at and pulled speedo sensor, wiped off, reinstalled. Pulled speedo out, apart,no broken wires, put back together, mounted in console, still the same,no odometer.
Any suggestions as to whats next other than a dakota digital replacement ?
