CorrectAnyone know if S&S 33-5352 is the correct part number for a 117 S&S engine?
Was reading a HD site, they wrote there was a lot of problems with Jims engines (and poor service) they claimed that Jims tappets are main reason for exploded engines. They said that even Jims dealers told to replace those with HD tappets.
If there is any truth on those stories from around 2005-2008 you might consider replacing yours with S&S lifters???
Holy crap Andy! You are one patient dude! I would'a yanked them out of my bike after a week of waiting on a response, glad you are finally changing them out and thanks for the detailed info on how f'd up Jim's lifters are.
I have a lawsuit against JIMS in Marin county for product liablilty and
fraud. There are a couple of really unscrupulous people there ie; Colin
Kately and Paul Platt. They had me put it in a shop and once they got the
tappet refused to pay. In my case the axle walked out of the tappet. Colin
Kately told me that they knew about the problem and that it was worn machine
tooling. Any information that anyone has about these bastards I would
appreciate.

Well now I know what to look for in my motor. It just did the same
thing and it has jims lifters.
Now ya don't have to read. I gave you a video to watch.Reading all this sure makes me happy I was bored yesterday and looked into HD sites!

Now the real question is do you have your spring questions answered for the S&S lifters?Today I ordered the S&S Hydraulic premium roller lifters without the limited travel kit. 246.00. ....and the first thing I did this morning was to make sure Margot Sparks had a link to this topic. Maybe if the motorcycle industry is lucky, Jims Lifters company will get washed out with that dam.
Here she is coming into work this morning. Is that the factory in the background where these lifters are made?

I was thinking the same thing!Well, that kind of makes one to wish their gearboxes are good for Big Dogs sake.

If their lifters are crap, and the rocker arms are crap, then would it be safe to say that the transmissions are..........

I had a chat in local shop that used to service Big Dogs, told them about new BD, mechanic told ppl are complaining about the noise JIMs tranny makes. Well if it is all straight gears, it should be noisy ...I was thinking the same thing! If their lifters are crap, and the rocker arms are crap, then would it be safe to say that the transmissions are..........

I mean I have not heard of a lot of problems with them, I know they used crappy bearings in them, but that can be fixed, personally I like the look of them way better and would not want the Jim's tranny,
especially since hearing about all this crap, looks too much like a Harley, I have over 20,000 on my bike and no problems yet.
Well, new Big dog uses JIMs, Baker is not making DSSC anymore.. And, I don't know, but wouldn't be surprised would Big Dog have problems getting parts from Baker exept with cash after the bankruptcy.I don't understand what the problem is with the DSSC transmissions,I mean I have not heard of a lot of problems with them, I know they used crappy bearings in them, but that can be fixed, personally I like the look of them way better and would not want the Jim's tranny,

Well that explains why they don't have the DSSC anymore, and your prolly right about them dealing with Baker after all that shit went down for sure, Yea I know Andrew has been repairing them, some of us just went ahead and did the fix before anything went wrong, Ker is one of those guys that did it as a preventive measure, I am sure others have also, not me though, I am the guy that won't fix it if it ain't broke, so until then I am gonna ride the shit outta it!Well, new Big dog uses JIMs, Baker is not making DSSC anymore.. And to be honest Andrew has been busy repairing our transmissions, bearings and the older main axels and whatelse.

How did ya know it was failing? Making noises or sumth'n? So does my 09 have the new style? I did hear a clunking sound when I got the bike but as soon as I changed the oil to the RedlineI had Andrew rebuild my 07 because it had the old style input shaft that was failing . Plus all new bearings
