When I don't have the sissy bar on, then it's always on the downtubes,

But with the sissy bar I use a different bag,

Maybe I need a different down tube bag that I could take on and off easier. That BD bag was mounted with aluminum clamps to the down tubes and I can't believe they didn't mark up the paint when I took it off. Afraid to use that on the down tubes again.

Mine has leather straps that don't scratch it up, I usually clean the tubes before strapping it on them, if it worries you then just get that 3M tape for the downtubes.

I had mine above the headlight for years but I had the Wolf headlight that was thinner, I had some 3M bra material on the triple trees so it didn't mark the aluminum.

I just recently took mine off the triple tree, you can see where the 3M was, but Billet cleaned the triple tree's right up.

I put clear rubber tubing on the downtubes, got rid of the straps that came with the bag and I use heavy black zip ties..stays put.
