Purchased Axels kit from Donna - before I start, I am just wondering if anyone has any pics of original vs after, more curious in the mounting. My old EHC has a circuit board between the box and the connector - does this remain with the new set up as well??? I believe this setup is the reason my seay cant sit down all the way and rubs the connector plug?? Anyway any pics or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Sam

I sent him an email as well - might be self explanatory after i tear it apart, but no sense in figuing out something that i can find out the answer to with a simple question/pic is somebody already has it???

Thanks

Sam can you snap a pic of your setup? I'm confused on what board your talking about between your EHC and the connector.

Axles box will replace only your EHC black box. And my understanding it fits In the same spot

I had a 04 but didn't have have that extra gizmo your referring to. Maybe if you can post a pic that may clear things up.

mine is similar to this - i wil take a picture this evening - but pretty sure its the same
Oh yea you won't need that. That was a recall for the 2004 EHC just unplug from that board and plug into axles

Originally the EHC backbone clipped in they had a recall because it wouldn't stay tight. Rather than replace the EHC they added that and should have changed your backbone

sweet- thanks for the info- because that extra height is the reason my seat cant sit down all the way and i have been rubbing the connector plug very hard on the seat pan. Appreciate the info.

Hmmm-- yea, Im hoping this circuit board adapter and new backbone - does not impact its ability to plug directly into Axels EHC?? As in theyu changed the connector??

I think you'll be fine. I never asked axle though but I imagine he used the upgraded harness with the screws instead if the clips.

Considering it was a recall in 04 a lot of bikes got it fixed, like Harry. I was the unlucky SOB the recall was never done when I bought mine.

Im hoping to get to it today- but if not will get it done this weekend and take some pics - will keep my original as a spare - as it still works - with the occasional shut off - but it will due in an emergency. lol

Well, could be a small issue - i emailed Axel for options.
My EHC was apparently changed out - to the new style - 2 connector type - with adapter (circuit board) to convert it to single connector use. However my backbone harness was original -clip type.

Now the EHC from Axel has the high standoffs on it to screw the backbone harness into his EHC and there is no room (height) for the clips

If i remove the clips from the harness itself then I have no holes in the housing to put bolts through to secure it to the EHC

Ive figured the best options are remove the standoff from ehc and place the clips in there - but i really ain't sure I want to keep the clips

Or
I could remove the connector on the harness from the housing and bolt it to the ehc and then rig a way to secure the housing to the actual connector itself??

Im waiting to hear from Alex to see if he has encountered this issue previously, smh

Axel is aware and I have sent him some pics of the situation - just waiting to see what his advice is before I go trying to engineer something that he may have a better solution for?? I'll keep you all posted on his response/solution.

Never really got an answer from Axel- so, i just did it as I said and took connector apart from plastic housing and bolted that to the EHC and then placed plastic housing over the top and its secure - i mean its not going to fall off. but i ran a zip tie over it as extra security (and its only holding housing on top - the connector to the EHC is bolted)
But in any event- got it all connected - used same connector for each nonnection as original EHC so i can polae it back on in matter of minutes in case of emergency.
Fired it up- tested everything - and all seems well.

Sam,
Sorry for the timing just came across this tread. I also have a 2004 Chopper with Axel ehc. From the photo I believe the extra circuit board between your old ehc and connector, Was a adapter plate to covert a newer ehc 2005 an up to a 2004 wiring connector. Here are some picts. First is a 2007 ehc with the circuit board to covert to a 2004 plug.

Second is a stock 2004 ehc
EHC clps 2.jpg
Third is stock clips
EHC clips.jpg
Forth is Axel new ehc
EHC4-1 (2).jpg

I just removed the clips from the old ehc and took out the two screws from the new ehc then put the clips on it.

Damn - I wasnt sure if the two screws came out of the new unit to screw the clips in. lol
Then I got paranoid that the clip was a recall and would fall off- even though- lets be honest its hgeld on there foer 10years already, lol

But thanks for the feedback. I had to order new throttle cable as mine was dragging and it ended up being frayed. But in mena time i replaced the speeodmeter with dakota digital - just for looks, lol

Yea I did not like the clips. But thought the same thing, it worked for the last 12 years. Just push hard and make sure that both ends clip.
