On my second docs unit on my second big dog and wouldn't get anything else. It's hand made to fit the specific bike. Battery charging monitoring system. Runs my air ride suspension. A true plug in play system. No splicing at all. Waterproof and worth every minute and penny took to install it. Any problem and Jeff who makes it walks you thru any issue till it's taken care of. Great product and great live support from docs.

Thanks guys. I really appreciate the help. I think I'll be going with the DOCs unit for a few reasons. I'm not so worried of a 15 minute fix as I'd be happy to spend more time to do what seems to me is a better fix. I certainly have NO intention of getting rid of the bike, so I'm going for the long haul. I'll give you an update when I get through and let you know how the install went.

I just replaced the rear tire (330), the rear hubs (which were flaking most of the chrome off of them), and the rear sprocket (same issue).

Thanks again, I really appreciate the feedback!

Beautiful bike. You will be glad you went with docs and get the charging fault light option. It told me my VR was going out before it did. It's worth it.

I've got an '08 Ridgeback, had a problem so I had the EHC tested and it looks like I have to replace it. I'm trying to make the decision between what looks like 3 real choices and could use some feedback. Choices are the EHC RIP from BDM, The German EHC from Wild Steed Works, or the unit from Dead One Customs. Any advice guys?
No question Jeff from dead one customs, Excellant product and service. Will always help you with all questions very knowledgable and professional!

Looks like I am going to have to replace mine this spring. Can I get some idea on prices of them? I contacted BigDog about what mines been doing and they suggested a new control module. Trying to get all my options first

I would do new dead one customs esc and back bone harness. Water proof the connections and you shouldn't have to mess with it again. Will run about $650.

DOC's ESC, I have it installed and best money I've ever spent. 6k miles since install with no issues.:old2::old2:

The Axel unit has some nice programming features that you can change. All the factory functions work and some can be changed which is nice. For me I was not so worried about improving the water proofing of the unit itself. Seems unlikely enough water can get to the EHC under the seat to cause issues. You could plastic bag it if you ride in heavy rain at times. From what I understand, water on the handlebar switches cause most of the issues.. Price of $500 is nice, along with the 2 year warranty. All the factor when I researched all three options.

Ok, so here's my update... The mods were minimum. Only required a VERY small piece of the underside of the seat was modified. Other than that, nothing else. I have a starter that turns over as quick as a metric bike, and I haven't put the battery tender on it at all. I have to say, so far that I am extremely happy with the Dead One Custom system. Thanks to Jeff! Directions were straight forward and didn't require any further support. I'm a believer!

Been reading this thread and still on original EHC, some time ago after buying my 05 Chopper I bought the Wire Plus as a backup.
Never needed it and now it's a dinosaur and couldn't sell it here on the swap shop. If I were to get another replacement I'd probably go for Axel's as it's an easy install on my 05 compared to the others.
Either way all the options are better than "none".
Thanks for all the info
ps/WP is for sale

Yea, unfortunately that WP is a dinosaur if you can hock it on fleabay for $100 I'd call that a success. Some guys may just scoop it up for spare parts if they already installed it. Nobody in there rightind should install one these days from scratch in my opinion.
