Addictive, it just kinda sucks ya inMan you guys are a bad influence. Got me yapping and doing what I just condemned you for. Good night
It wasn't really used then and as far as the BS, it did happen back in the earlier days but it was a different group of guys, some of which still post but not that much any more.Don't you remember the old format we had a couple years ago. The bottom bar was a chat room. to my knowledge, nobody used it, but there wasn't as much BS going on back then.
If you pull the motor and tranny, your going to have to deal with realigning it with the back tire and the tranny is shimmed also. Maybe you would be better off trying giving your bike to a professional detailer. The local motorcycle shop has a guy come in to do bikes and I see him spend as much as 4 days on 1 bike, and it does not look like the same bike when he's done.I just don't think I'm going to get it clean enough to my satisfaction without taking it apart. For me anything less than perfect just isn't good enough. My main concern is removing the motor and Trans causing leaks once it's put back together. It's got a lot of really eched in water spots that normal polishing isn't going to remove. If I pull the motor it's going to my buddy that is a pro polisher. The wheels and front mend I'll do myself. Even if I leave the motor the wheels are coming off for sure. Prob the front end and triple trees. Problem is I have two bikes to do before spring.
After reading 5 pages of this thread I know I will never have a really insanely clean bike.![]()
As I've told most here. I used to have a hot rod shop and built many many cars from shells to street rods, I still do one or two a year. But my main income is from building and designing custom streetrod interiors. At one time I would build every square inch of the street rods. I painted them built the motors, did the interior. I was a true one stop shop. That being said I know my way around a tool box. But the reason I know how to do as much as I do is because I always approach the project with as much info and input as I can before I remove a bolt. I've done a ton of tri-5 Chevys and 33-34 fords. I know them inside and out along with several other popular old cars. However I've never tore apart a k-9 or any big dog for that matter. So that's the reason for my questions. What to look out for when you do, keep an eye out for this part or that part. Pros and cons of taking one apart. Major one is... This bike doesn't leak a drop of anything anywhere. Will pulling the primary, Trans and motor open a can of worms as far as creating oil leaks. Also is the wiring brittle sensitive and so forth. Maybe I should have written this in the beginning. I have a hard time explaing myself in person much less trying to do so in writing. Sorry if my post was misleading.
Fresh powdercoat? Or just a good rubdown..View attachment 38035 Just do it already, aint nothing but parts.
That was my rebuild 5yrs ago. Fresh powder coat and change of scheme.Fresh powdercoat? Or just a good rubdown..![]()
Black and chrome...the bestThat was my rebuild 5yrs ago. Fresh powder coat and change of scheme.
As far as anything to look out for, anytime you tinker with things you run the risk of a tinker toy, but what you want to do shouldn't cause ya grief. Actually if you look at it right, you will be improving your bike. Tear down is a great time to waterproof ur pup. Boards connectors ect....jm .02 Aint nothing go wrong that we cant help ya with....probably?
How the hell did ya pull that one off??? That's crazy!!View attachment 38017 How's this for a motor![]()
You know life's short so do what you think you need to do. All I know is twice a year I take my main bike down to the shop to be detailed. They get all the little spots I don't have the patience to get and for $100 it's worth it. After a few rides it looks the same dirty shape it looked like before the detail. Ya, it's easier to clean but only for a little while. To all of you that always give your input. I truly truly appreciate your advise your knowledge skill and wisdom.
I feel comfortable posting my thoughts ideas suggestions and general comments on the site. I've been on several different fourms in the past and it always seems there are one or two that want to argue or just be a condescending ass in general. I haven't gotten that vibe from anyone on here. I know threads drift a bit back and forth but there is a genuine brotherhood here. We laugh and joke we help each other and are more to one another than just words typed out on screen. People so often loose that on forums. That's Not so here.
I've met lots of you and have really genuinely liked everyone I've met. It is so easy to make friends here. That's not too common anymore. Thanks to you all for being there for me and being so approachable and welcoming. Thanks again my fellow Bdb brothers!

When I think about all the work it takes to tear a bike down, polish it and put it back together it seems a waste of time to me but that's just me. It took me about a month when building my BadDawg chopper to align everything correct and get everything right so to do all that to have a show bike for just a few runs seems ______. But hey, you own the bikes and you can do whatever you think you need to do but take it from an old fuck (as Curtis calls me) you won't do it twice.....
