Pros and cons for tear down and clean

I've been detailing my k-9 for the past few days. I'm to the point where I am seriously considering a complete tear down to clean and polish. I just can't get into every nook and cranny. So I'm spending a lot of time trying too clean and polish around parts that it would just be easier to remove. I've already had front and rear fenders off cleaned polished buffed and all fasteners treated to fresh blue loctite.

My concern is wiring issues and oil leaks from the tear down.

Any advice? I know some of you doo this every few years. Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated!

Go for broke. Take LOTS of pics. You can delete them later but invaluable when rebuilding. You get to know your bike from the inside out, plus you may find some things you may otherwise miss....(I think of my lower neck cup that was cracked in half) If you have the time and place, start wrenching......

Well this takes cleaning and polishing to a whole new level!

The toughest spot to get into is in and around the oil pump and right behind the engine in between the transmission. otherwise once you take off the exhaust and air cleaner you should be able to clean everything and reach it with a paint stick.

I generally have my bike apart enough to do a thorough cleaning without taking it apart just for the sake of cleaning it. Last time I spent 8 hrs detailing the bike I broke down 11 miles from home...now that's a kick in the pants!

With that said - As far as Gaskets go it wouldn't hurt to replace the exhaust gaskets on your new skoot, only cost ya a couple buckaroo's anyways.

I personally like the flat style Exhaust gaskets and I double em up.

I've never tried the flat ones I do know the tapered ones aren't fun to put in:oldhardlaugh:
These are great the tapered crush gaskets suck and you NEVER want to reuse those. These flat ones I've reused before if needed.

I actually double them up and it helps keep the leaks out. And actually sometimes I'll just replace the top one if it's recent since the second one usually doesn't get crushed up.

Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/191181084529

I think ya need to take some Prozac and a few beers and chill out.... One or 2 good rides and it will be dirty again.... If I spend more than 30 minutes cleaning my bike I don't feel like riding anymore......

How's that going for ya did you get the shaft out?
Not yet.... Havent had time. Been busy with this fuel pump. Got it ready to go just waiting on the fuel pump to get delivered now. Worked from home today so got to spend a couple hrs fucking with it.

Got these carbide blades for the oscillating tool I picked up. I'm hoping this gets it out easily.
