For the FI dog owners is the stock unit the S&S IST ignition or some dumbed down version?

And this is the reason I'm not buying a new dog. Not trying to start a shit storm but a bike without local support just doesn't make sense. I'm keeping my 07 and my membership here. I came here in July 2010 looking for help and this crew hasn't let me down yet.
Ya, we know as much about the bikes as any customer rep... Between us all we can figure out almost anything... This is the only board I belong too because it's the only board with "real" true people...

Keeping your "old" bike makes sense because you can fix it, ride it and not have to worry about all the new fangled shit they are putting on the bikes today. A lot like the 60's - 70's cars....

To prove my point, I went on a few Harley sites looking to see how the rear fender comes off my bike. Almost everyone said you had to remove the rear wheel and use a 50 toque wrench on the fender bolts. All you have to do is just take out the 4 rail screws and it falls right out and the bolts on the rail are 45's not 50's. A bunch of newbies that just want to post... If you tell them the truth they flame you.... not worth the time...

SKOGDOG

One of the old ones.
IMHO the 'new' Big Dog is a separate business from the original. All of us bought our bikes from an individual another whole separate motor company. I have always found Matt, Brandon, and Ohmster to be cooperative and helpful with regard to any questions or info needed. It's a small operation and Sheldon Coleman built thousands of bikes before 2011. If everyone called for information......
I have seen Matt provide a lot of very useful information to the 'old' BDM population, but in my opinion, any legitimate claim for tech support died with the sinking of the original BDM.
NOW: I bought that red Bulldog Bagger from the same place Viking did. Yesterday. A 2010 w/53 miles. One thing I know for sure--it's a bike with no factory warranty--nada-- (I think S&S goes by time), so essentially first time I throw a leg over it, it magically turns into a very low mileage seven year old used BD Bagger. I paid $18K because it's brand new and I love the damn thing. And like Viking, I'm willing to pay to ride the most beautiful Bagger out there.
If it breaks within a month, I'll call Theo.. But I hope he is a stand-up guy. If he can't or won't fix it --like Viking--I'll do it, or turn to this Forum to find out ("hep me Mr. Wright and John Sachs!!").
My point is that many of us appreciate the support that Matt provides, and no one is suggesting it's not in Matt's best business interests to help out Forum members. But----his first obligation is his business to run, and like many newer small businesses, it's run on a tight schedule and an even tighter budget.
So when he doesn't answer soon enough, understand it's better to re-inquire in an Email than to think he owes us. I know him well enough to say he would never be indifferent or disrespect potential customers--but there are only so many hours in a day. And he has bikes to build for cash paying customers.

Yep agreed...of your expecting support on an 8-10 year old vehicle your SOL even Harley won't work on some bikes anymore. Remember Buell anyone?

Rick I'm happy for you, I know you've been eyeballing a bagger for years! I can't wait to see it!!!! We might have to mod it to a carb though

Good post. They are in a catch 22... If they don't support the old bikes people will not have faith in the new ones but that cuts the bottomline $$... So, they have to support both to get ahead. I hope they realize this because even though they are a new company they are still using the old name so they got to pay for that...

I'm hoping it's just something simple like the battery being taken out yet if someone would be so kind to explain to me how or why that could happen I have many fuel injected machines , seadoos,(when I had sportbikes) tractor car truck etc and never would they lose the fi, mapping even alicias nightster is fi, I just replaced the battery this summer no issue
The mapping is kept in a silicone chip which needs voltage to keep it's memory. Once you lose the voltage you lose the memory. Computers have batteries on board to stop this from happening. Bikes don't.

We discussed this in other post, but try re initializing the IAC.

Disconnect battery for ~30 seconds. Reconnect, it hit run and wait ~20 seconds before you start it. You should hear the fuel pump prime for 2-3 seconds and then the IAC pulsing for ~10 seconds. Then start and let idle. Try not to hit throttle.

If you did not wait previously when you reconnected, the EFI module may have lost position of the IAC.

If this does not do it, then I would suspect, fuel or contamination in the injectors/filters
Tried it and no change whatsoever. After the reset, it cranks and seem to run for three seconds before shutting off. I can get it running only by pumping the throttle.

I guess now try some good injector cleaner
Injector cleaner on a bike with 186 mikes just doesn't make any sense. That it went from running fine to a sudden crappy running engine, suggest electrical to me. I might be wrong, but I will take the fuel tank off and investigate filters. Maybe a call to S&S will help too, since the lack of support from BDM was at a level I still have a hard time believing. Needless to say I'm contemplating a carb setup at this point.

Really it kinda does considering its a 201p.. just to give u an example, when I got my fury it had about 3k on it and had been sitting for a few years, threw a battery and some fresh gas in it and it ran fine for an entire tank, refilled it and about 10 miles later it started spitting and sputtering.. took apart the fuel line, rail, and injectors and they looked like coffee almost even after a full tank was ran through it.. cleaned em up and threw some octane booster in it on top of the 93 octane. Sputtered a bit at initial start up, but never had an issue again.. would hurt trying to clean it up, I used intake cleaner though, a bit less abrasive on the orings and screens

That's the plan for tomorrow. It's rain and freezing cold (60's) here anyways....

Anything that sits for awhile with this new gas with ethanol, it's not good. I had good luck with SeaFoam motor treatment. It cleans great and does not hurt the seals. Good luck.
