I'm not sure if I should buy another big dog or fix my mastiff.

The check from the ins company is $7,700.00 and I have a little play money saved.

Should I put the $7,000.00 in completely rebuilding my mastiff or sell it and buy a super low mile k-9.

If I were to sell the mastiff I'd prob ask 7,500.00 it just turned over 13,000 miles.

Any suggestions?

It's all in what you really want, do you like the Mastiff? or is a K9 sumth'n you'd rather have now? All I know is I love my 09 Mastiff, I had a 05 Bulldog, sold it to pay some bills from my concrete business, I would "NOT" sell the 09 to pay bills! So if you don't love the Mastiff that much, if it's not your ultimate dream bike, then sell it and get the K9.

Don't know what the market is like where you're at, but I sold my '04 Mastiff for $7000 a few months ago (with similar miles, great condition). It was a low price, but that's what the market dictated. One prospective purchaser fell through because his bank would not loan him the 7 G I was asking. You can ask $7500 all day long, but I doubt you'll get it, especially going into winter. The insurance $$$ is quick and easy, also no hassle fixing and listing the Mastiff and dealing with all the a-holes that respond to your for sale posts. So, as cdogg says, how much do you like the Mastiff? Good luck either way.

There are two types of guys in the world. Those that marry for love and those that marry so they don't have to look for nooky each weekend.
Now I know there are a lot of subcategories that defines each group, and those that seem to be in between the two groups, but looking at the big picture, there are two groups.
There are also two types of bikers, those who own a bike to ride when he wants, and those that the bike becomes part of them. These are the people that tear their bikes apart just because and caress each part. You buy upgrades, to make her look and run better. You spend all your free time riding, shining, and taking care of her every need. In other words, you might as well marry your bike.
Those that just ride theirs and never do anything except add apiece of chrome or something, will more than likely be looking at the newer shinier models coming out, and will divorce their current model in a heart beat.
Let's face it, with a wife; if you don't upgrade her accessories, and fine tune her attitude, there will be no riding at all. And if she has to go somewhere else for repairs, someone else will end up with her.
Why is that some people seem to have a love affair with their bikes, or vehicles in general? We all remember our first car, first bike, first girlfriend, and all of them will hold a special place in our hearts, with fond memories of days gone by. But when you find that special bike, car, or lady, why do we get so weirded out and treat them so much better than any others. I know consciously, we can tell the difference, but subconsciously, can our brains tell the difference between driving, riding, and sex?
So the question you need to ask is, was the Mastiff a one night stand, (so to speak), or the love of your life.

I go back and forth. I love the paint scheme it's (to me. ) the coolest one I've ever seen. I like the looks of the k-9 better than the mastiff. But I love the paint job on this bike. When I first saw this bike it was a total wow factor to me. I've never got that from any of the k-9's I looked at because I didn't like the paint jobs as much. Things I don't like about the mastiff is the 250 rear tire, wish it was wider but I can live with it. Anyone ever put k-9 front forks on a mastiff? I know it prob wouldn't work (geometry) but I do wonder what it would look like.

What I did was dumping a bunch of money into rebuilding my pitbull around 12k actually. Then decided that I really need another bike and ended up buying a big bear sled. Guess how often I ride the pitbull???? Never
I refuse to sell it but if I could have a do over, I would have never wasted the money on the rebuild

You just answered you own question, sell the mastiff! Just find a K9 with the paint you like, there are a lot out there, just be patient.

I have a big heart and there's plenty of love to go around to all the people/things that matter to me. If some body/thing new comes around, I blow it up a little bigger:D

After just going through a similar situation.

If i were in your shoes, id take the money, pot a couple thousand more with it and go bargain hunting. You can pick up a nice K9 for under $10K. Then park the Mastiff for a while and make your decision. You"ll be ridin a nice bike, then if you don't LOVE the K9 then start putting the parts together to put the Mastiff back in better condition than it was. But this way, you always have a nice bike, and you can make your decision from experience rather than from speculation. Me personally, i know where I'd land. I"d end up building the Mastiff to ride daily, and customizing the K9 for getting out stretching some legs.
