im having problems with the front stop light reed switch, i have replaced the pcb on both sides and a brand new reed switch but the little hex bolt that holds in is badly damaged and i am now having problems getting it to adjust do i drill it out and re tap it. is there a way round the reed switch so the stop light works when the lever is pulled as this has to work for vehicle certification or the cops will give me extra paperwork and its going to be very costly to change out my bars and controls anyone please help

Its a very small alan wrench which you already know, so I would get an easy out to remove the old screw, and just replace the alan set screw with a new one. Its very easy to round out the screw cause the alan wrench is so small. If the threads are screwed up then I would say you have to re tap it after the other one is out

The other thing that maybe you could try and this is if the screw isn't real tight on the reed switch. Put something between the lever, like a pencil, and the end of the reed switch and squeeze the brake handle and maybe you will push the switch back just enough, don't over do it cause you could damage the switch
i think it needs to go in more as the light is on all of the time i have tried to push it in with a small screwdriver but no luck and it looks like i am going to have to drill it out getting really pissed off with this bike there is allways something wrong with it got an oil leak as well now grrr

The reed switch is too close to the magnet in the brake handle, that's why its on. You need more distance to turn it off.i must have a faulty reed switch then as my stop light is on all the time even when there apart it does not make any difference if there together or apart my stop light is still on all the time and i have to disconnect it on the pcb to turn it off its the only way i can use the bike for now thanks anyway

The reed switch has to be a certain distance away from the magnet or metal insert, the handle is aluminum and the reed switch will not detect aluminum. It does not touch anything, it works when it gets close. Here's a pic of mine, its at least 1/4" away from contacting.
You could try sticking something in between the two peices that's non conductive to interrupt the signal just to see if the brake lights turn off. Then you'll know if the switch is bad.
It's really a simple switch, just a magnet. I highly doubt it's bad but the connection to your pcb could be poor.
