Great news for those of us in San Diego. Curtis's new Wild Steed shop in Valley center is shaping up nicely.
Me and a couple friends were having a great Barbeque rib lunch at Fat Ivors in Valley Center Ca, when a fellow biker walked in and asked if we were the ones on the Choppers.
Seems Spencer had just purchased a new (to him) K-9 and had dropped it off at Curtis's new shop for a going over and fresh fluids. Said Curtis was there right now, and maybe we could catch him and check out the new place.
We sent Curtis a text and headed over to the address we got from Spencer.
As we drove by the address we saw Raywood wave us down and unlocked the gates for us. Said that they were not really open, but just doing a few bikes while setting up the new shop. Invited us in and showed us around the new place. While still under organization, we could see that it was going to be a fantastic facility once Curtis and Ray get it sorted out.
We saw the heavy milling machinery, sandblasting, electrical bench, and transmission rebuilding station being installed and organized into an efficient layout. While much is still to be done, it was obvious that this is going to be a special place and a true blessing for those of us struggling to keep our Custom Choppers well maintained and on the road.
Saw their new heat sink (pretty trick) LED headlights and lots of other stuff they are working on.
One of us had a headlight what was not working correctly, and Curtis and Ray completely rewired the bike, taking out a lot of crap stuff put in by the previous owner, and we left with everything working perfectly and they even noticed a bunch of loose wiring, including at the battery that was screwing everything up. Even put an omitted battery pad underneath the battery, to keep it from eating it's way through the battery tray, and insulating the battery a bit from the Choppers destructive vibrations.
Those guys really know their way around Choppers. It is obviously a central part of their lives.
Ray and Curtis make a great team, with each seeming to know what the other needs, even before they ask. The respect they show for each other is something rare today, and we all truly wish them great success in their new shop.
Finding them is a true blessing. So hard to find mechanics that truly take their work to heart, have great equipment and knowledge. Their prices are truly fair, and service unmatched.
Curtis was hobbling around in pretty great pain, as he is only a couple weeks away from getting a new hip replacement. Hope everyone in the community will wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to them getting the new shop in full operation.
Imaging they will initially work on serving bikes on a part time basis while putting the long hours that will be needed to get the shop sorted out, and bet they will have a fantastic open house party to announce the new shop when the times comes.
