M-Unit Installed

Finally got my M-Unint installed thanks to all the information provided by THORS, GDOG_PITBULL and all the other members that contributed.

Here are a few pictures of my install. I've done a few shakedown rides and everything is working great with no problems. For the money and time spent, I think the M-Unit is the way to go. I'm very pleased with it so far.

Its still ruining haven't got to ride much in the last year on so health issues one thing after the other. i keep walking buy it everyday saying to myself that i need to take it out for a ride but I havent yet.

I went to a TH unit just for turn signals, brake light, etc. My decision to wire a push button start (starter solenoid, compression release, etc.) in an old school style was the best decision I could have made. No BS electronics to leave me stranded ever again!

No, was still able to keep the BD controls...but I had to get creative in reference to the PC board circuitry / wiring. Start switch is completely seperate from any of the BD stuff.

I am going to try the M Unit on my 06 k9 was wondering if you rewired your handle bar switches or if you were able to use your original wires and switches ? I was thinking if ran a hot wire to the handle bar pc boards where the common ground is now, it would send a signal to the M Unit which would in turn light up the signals, horn etc. I am already running a thunder heart adjustable ing, and my starter is on a 12 volt key switch through a fuse box. No ECM. I would like to return to the start button and maybe run a relay like choptop did. what do you think ? am I going to go up in smoke?? Your input would be greatly appreciated, my eletricel skills are greatly limited. Did I say Greatly ???

I was reading about the m-unit vers.2 the other night. That looks pretty clever and simple system. Would I go that route, I would make a totally new harness.... Is there a point trying to mix it to Big Dog system with all the connectors and shit? Also look at their (Motogadget) micro switches and that, was it a micro-unit -or whatever. Those are pretty cool looking parts and best of all, they are made for each other. You may face weird problems trying to mate two totally different systems together.

I don't see any point in messing with the MUnit when we have RIP and ESC now. You'll save yourself countless hours and trouble shooting. Especially for someone who is not very electrically inclined.

Now if you want to swap handlebar switches then munit is prob fine.

I do want to swap switches and handle bars, but was hoping to ride for a while before spending the $$$
with our switches being incorporated into the brake resavor and clutch housing thought it would look like a cluster fk to add more switches. I see Gdog's burned up was wondering if he ran the relays like Choptop did??
I am going to build a total new harness want to do away with my separate light switches and air ride switch, maybe even the automotive key switch I added.

Hey thanks for looking i've put about 2500 miles on her since i did the rewire and still no problems. one relay for the starter and one for the horn and a hopkins #48845converter for the turn signals and brake lights you can also use #48895 You can find them on line or get them at your local parts store.I got mine at a advance parts store
. hope this helps.The other black box under the unit is the 40 amp maxi fuse for the system.

The M unit would be fine as long as the starter circuit is only used to trigger a relay for the starter. I did not do that and the starter circuit killed my M unit.

Nice to see an M-unit install that lasted. I did use a relay for starter circuit. M went up in smoke cruising down the road. Had such cool functionality too, really liked it. Good luck!

The relays i used are the 4or5 prong relays you can get at the auto parts store. I tied in to the harness under the gas tank at the quick disconnects hope this helps.
