EHC RIP Kit Torture Tests

Energy One

All of the new kits function exactly like the original EHC EXCEPT :

Differences:
1) Original EHC would not allow starter to engage if ignition (not keyswitch) is in "off" position. New Kit allows this.
2.) Original EHC reverts ignition circuit to "Off" position when keyswitch is turned off/on. New Kit has latching-memory so you don't have to hit "run" if the ignition was turned off by the keyswitch (opposed to the "off" button).

If you are running the stock EHC, you wont need to remove anything except the old EHC and power harness. It does not require removal of the tank or anything like that.

Here is a video of the installation of the new kits:

Matt, that's been the one pain in the ass for me is the starter allowed to engage. And I haven't figured out the sequence.

So your saying a latching memory, if I kill the bike on the handlebars then turn off key switch when I go back it's hot and ready? However if I kill bike via key NOT handlebar then it will be off?

When I first installed the kit I looked like an ass with my starter spinning at the bar until I pulled the seat and realized the ignition module wasn't on.

High/low is no biggie I got an indicator to tell me. The start thing is kind of annoying.

This feature/redundancy was designed to allow the bike to start and run if your PCB boards (Hand control buttons) begin to fail as it allows teh bike to function completely off the keyswitch (No run/off input needed). Simply put, you don't ever need to hit "Run" unless you hit "off." It remembers the last input from the handlebars regardless of what you do with the keyswitch. If you have further questions on this, give me a call at 316-260-8039 x 402 and I will be happy to help.

Matt, I own a pre 04 bike but have read all the post on the EHC issues. Thanks for the explanation of exactly how it all works and what the issues were. Good luck in you're venture.

The High/Low function on the units we currently sell operate exactly like the factory EHC.
Cool so that's been updated recently! Glad to hear it!

I will say I have a very early version when they first started selling them. No issues with the install or the unit thus far I've been happy with it.

While we got your attention, have you updated the wiring so the colors match the stock? That was literally my only complaint about the installation and maybe that's me being anal, but again it wasn't at all a big deal as the wires were very clearly labeled. Having matching wires would be nice though, but again by no means did it ever make it difficult.

Great work on bringing back the new Big Dog! I'm excited to see what else you guys have in store. Hopefully I'll have a new generation Big Dog to add to my stable some day! Keep up the good work!

Received my RIP kit and rained out in the harvest fields so I figured I'd get a start on the upgrade. This turned out to be really simple. I went with the Gen 2 kit so I am still using the OEM backbone harness. Install time was a little over an hour. At least the EHC is on the bench

Ordered a RIP kit for my K9. No issues with the OEM EHC yet, but it's bound to happen. It'll make a little winter project

My cousin and I both ordered replacements 1 or 1 1/2 years ago. Our computers have the low/high beam that works on the low beam button only. What differences do the new computers have in comparison to what we have now... AND, is there a way (software update or anything) to have our low/high beams work correctly now?

Thanks!

I just worked on an 06' Mastiff the last couple days and it had a RIP 2 in it, I think it was about 2-3 months old and the high/low and run/off buttons worked like OEM.

Only difference with the Gen 2 is if you shut the bike off with the key, u don't have to press run the next time you want to start it. But if you press off to shut it down, then run has to be pressed for it to start. Other thing I noticed is if high beam headlight is on when shut down, it will be on high beam next time power is cycled
