Does anyone have a HiTech 4 inch open primary on a 2004? Or any open primary with a solid back plate. I am trying to find more info on the spacers between back plate and motor vs back plate and trans. Mine has 1.5 between motor and 1.25 at trans. Any info would be useful. Thanks

Looks like the rear pulley may be out too far or the motor isn't straight with the trans. I would bet on the rear pulley alignment. I put a baker on my 07 K9 and had no issues. I also had the transmission out for a rebuild while installing the kit. Did you do the install on this unit?

Like I said in post Best way to align whole bike? http://www.bigdogbiker.com/threads/best-way-to-align-whole-bike.77493/ There are a few ways to make adjustments. I do not want to start moving things without more info. If the open primary rear pulley is out too far then I believe the spacer is too thick? Because if I move the trans any more to the right then the rear wheel can not move any more to align up rear belt. The way bike is now I already shifted rear wheel .25 inch to the right to get it center of fender and this helped with rear belt alignment also. After looking to see where rear belt was rubbing it seems to have been touching the back side of the starter gear. So it looks like both belts are ridding on the left side of front pulley's. In a small phrase it is all F up. My first plan was to rotate motor clock wise but did not think the outer primary would allow that?

On your Baker how thick are the spacer? Are they both the same size or different?

Have you checked the outside support bearing s . I've had to replace mine twice
Not yet. Unfortunately do not have much time to work on bike. Most of my spare time was used just to keep bike running. Now I believe Electrical gremlins are at bay! Don't want to say that too loud. Shhhh  I believe this is why bike was sold at what I though was a fair price.

PS Are the outside bearing fixed or adjustable?
Why did you have to change yours?

Ok After looking for weeks online and going to Hi Tech web page, finally found that Vicious Cycle Works still sells what is on my bike. Outlaw 4 inch open primary. http://www.viciouscycleworks.us/ccp8/Item/outla_w Looks like it is made for a Harley softail 1990 & up. I will call them to see if it can fit a big dog? It might? Their site states this.
( Hi Tech Harley Belt Drives, BIG DOG BELT DRIVES HITECH UP TO 2004 ,HARLEY, CUSTOMS )
Why I did not find this before have no clue? I think they are also form members?

Did you take a straight edge and check the pulley alignments when installing?
It was already on the bike when I bought it. I thought he had a Harley shop install it? Maybe it was put on by a friend??? or someone he found on craigslist? I don't know? But it is not correct, That I do KNOW.

Pknowles,
Thanks for the pic from what I see it looks like you back plate bolts right up to you motor no spacer. The trans looks like a 1 inch spacer. But I believe 2004 being left side drive and 2009 right side we are not comparing apples to apples. I agree proper instructions and spacer is what I need. I hope VWS can help with both.
see post 12

I was thinking the same thing about the apples and you are right on the plate. VCW should be able give you a set of instructions. BREW is right about the pulley alignment as its noted in the instructions. Good luck.

Actually the older models have an offset while the 05 and up have 0 offset and should bolt right up without spacers. Yours may not have the correct offset. So, yes Apples to apples different...
