Doc esc vs EHC RIP

SO you didn't have to pull the harness into your backbone?
Yes I did replace the backbone harness and I was glad I did because some of the wires were chaffing from rubbing the tank.:old2:
I'm not trying to flame anyone, but I don't like to see people misled either, opinions are like a$$holes, everyone has one :oldlaugh:
I was responding to Jwooky's post on true plug n play without any harness's, which is not true.( The new Gen 2 RIP is a direct connect to the EHC connectors) With that being said (ESC and RIP II are the same) I said that before I found the pic above today of the RIP II to see that is DOES have a wiring harness to it, but not the backbone harness, which has me wondering why the price would be the same as the ESC if it doesn't require the backbone harness, certainly a lot less work than the ESC to mfg. Prior to the pic of the RIP II today that I posted above, I was looking for answers.
The only true plug n play would be like the one Axel is putting together, which only takes a 10 minute install.

You are manipulating words to cover your mis statements.

This is an exact quote from my post. Verify your self.

"The new Gen 2 RIP is a direct connect to the EHC connectors, no need to replace back bone harness like the Gen 1 and the DOC."

I never said there was no wire harness or "true plug and play" although they are plug and play.

I think most will find not a having to remove the tank and backbone harness of value.

No its not, no manipulation there

Ya'll can go back and forth all Ya'll want to about this and that, but I know for a fact that axel's unit is the only true plug and play out there.....and If you want to do the deal with the harnesses, there is a brand new front and rear harness on ebay right now for $50 a piece. You use them with axel's price to us of $290, and you.have a complete set.up for less.than $400. Now Ya'll try to beat that.

No argument there, but my concern is its not fully proven. We have a staff of people that R&D EE modules and spend several hundred thousand dollars testing them, in all climatic conditions, vibration, thermal and mechanical shock etc, and we still have issue at times.

Not taking anything away from what he has accomplished, and I hope for us all it pans out.

I understand what you are saying, and if this were axel's first attempt at this I would agree. However, look at the other ehc thread and his numbers on his other boxes. He has been doing this type of application for a pretty good while. While the application is different, the principle is the same. And I agree, I hope it works out for everyone. Like I said before, he came onto our forum two months ago and has accomplished quite a bit.

The RIP II is the lower harness and TH module in this pic, what do you do with the rest of all those wires if it plugs into the EHC connectors?????????
Looks like one is the ground, starter wire, ignition, neutral transmission light, probably rear signals. Everything except what is ran through the backbone is my guess. Never seem one in person though

I know what the wires go to Eric, I was asking Jwooky what they go to since he thinks this harness just plugs into the ECH connectors as he stated above.

Hey I can be a smart a$$ too.

I never said only connects the to the EHC connectors.

It does connect directly to the EHC connectors. You can see them in pic. ( which I am not a fan btw, they are not sealed).

And you don't have to change the backbone harness. Those are facts, and that's all I said.

It just makes it easier for those not comfortable doing so.

I understand it's not only the EHC connectors. Those circuits They are calling rear harness. Not a bad way for some to do it.

Just had the rip gen 2 installed. Mechanic installed for me. Bought the unit from wildsteedworx. ...everything worked except hi/low beam. Long story short my mechanic made SEVERAL attempts to contact big dog motorcycles with absolutely no luck. This went on for about 5 weeks. I will have to live with no hi/low beams....not a big deal. Jowever....the customer service SUCKS....beware if you buy a rip gen1 or gen2 that if there is aproblem you probably won't get any customer service.

Did you try contacting Curtis @ wildsteedworx? He is usually more then willing to help with the products he sells. I'd find it hard to believe he wouldn't have gotten in touch with your mechanic to try and help out. Especially after 5 weeks.

I shot a question through email to Matt Moore new owner of Big Dog Motorcycles and received a lengthy feedback answering my questions and giving his advice forward for my bike. Customer service excellence

Imagine that:oldconfused:
That's another reason why I went with the ESC. Looks like there are still issues with the RIP II like there was with the RIP I. Your not the only one that has had problems with the RIP II, but I'm suprised after 5 weeks its still not right.

Okay, I get your point but, as you stated about JWooky, don't say something is something when its not.
Your statement earlier about the ESC being the same as the Gen 2 RIP is not true either.

Replacing the headlight harness is a scare tactic, although probably needed for those incapable of maintaining their rides properly, to sell something. I maintain dozens of BDs, as well as my own, and have never had a problem with or a need to replace the headlight harness.
I have had to reposition wiring and replace connectors due to poor maintenance yes but I have yet to have to replace a headlight harness.
And with the addition of LED headlights now, if your not running one then you really should get busy and upgrade, which draw dramatically less amperage than H4s it is truly not needed.
Its much the same as the scare tactics used to get people to pay a bunch of extra money when their having their trans rebuilt.

The Gen 2 kit is still Plug N Play. Okay so you have to unplug a couple more connectors than just two but it doesn't make it not Plug N Play.
You don't have to pull a backbone harness which for many is very daunting.
I can't speak to the cost as I am just a dealer but I can speak to the quality, versatility and ease of installation as I sell and install them.

As far as what Axel is doing. There is no solution there yet.
I wish him the best and should his solution truly be durable and last then I will happily eat crow and kindly ask him to allow me to be a dealer.
However, with all the experiences with the EHC, that so many have had out there already, does everyone really truly believe that someone has suddenly found the solution to all the issues that were killing the EHCs? Okay so Slick has had his in for a couple of weeks and what 400 miles that doesn't mean R&D is over does it? Axel is basically doing, and I mean no disrespect to you Axel, what BD did to their customers. He has even admitted that his other box is used primarily where people put maybe four hundred miles a season on their bikes and he can't gurantee the longevity or durability of his "EHC" yet. I also think the folks willing to step out and buy his product are owed a bit of gratitude as they are being guinea pigs.

In the end I think people here should quit trying to trash others because they think their better or the shit their buying is better.
If you have a true bitch or complaint because you were screwed over and you were denied the help you needed thats one thing but to slip and slide around here like so many have been doing to try and trash others is bullshit, cowardly and assinine.
Were all just a bunch of bikers trying to make our rides dependable so we can spend our time on two wheels and having fun.

This is not a rant and I am no way upset.
So please leave it alone WB.

Here's a pic of the RIP II and a list of a few problems
R.I.P. Gen II EHC kit installed
  1. Wires are longer than original.
  2. Horn connection came off during install.
  3. Difficult to fit all wires in the original location.
  4. Wires going in to new EHC has a plastic housing. (see pictures)
Are you getting kick backs from DOC?
Your supposed list of problems are only if you don't know what your doing.
I install these kits and don't have these issues.
"Horn connection fell off during installation"
What does that even mean? Their just spade connectors.
More likely it was pulled off.
If I started talking about the calls I have gotten regarding the ESC I could make the same accusations.
But shit happens so I don't try to use that to thwart people.
Get off the podium man.
What most do not realize is the so called extra wiring is not extra.
The harness is designed to wrap around the battery box to keep the stress on the connctor at the module to a minimum and to allow the rear harness to fall into place under the box the way the stock does.
So the fact that the original EHC connectors had "plastic" housings eludes you?
It gets plugged in and zipped tied out of the way who cares what the housing is made of?
