Front Fender Creaking Noise

Over the past few months I've noticed a creaking noise around the front fender which has gotten worse. The noise happens when turning the handle bars left or right, moving or not. I've always assumed it was the fender/brackets and today I took the fender off to see and sure enough the creaking noise goes away. When I tighten the bolts up I can hear the noise. I cleaned the bolts and the threading in the fender, but the noise is still there. Any ideas on the best way to remedy this annoying as hell noise?

WD40 on bolts and Armor All on my seat.. Just the way I like it. :old2:

Pics of what exactly? Everything off? They are stock fender and brackets. Nothing special.

Awe I was just trying to post up pics of another awesome BD paint job! :old2:

On the squeak, that says you have some kind of relative motion between the brackets and fender or brackets and tubes. First I would make sure everything from the triple trees down is tight and solid. When turning right and left, you could be getting some relative motion between the forks. Eliminate that. If that is tight and it is just more of an annoyance, try putting a thin Teflon shim between the bracket and fender when you bolt it up. See if that makes the squeak go away. You should be able to get a sheet of Teflon somewhere and cut it out to fit.

Thanks for the input. I'll give that a shot. Whatever it is, I hope it's simple. Tired of hearing that damn noise.

I put nylon thin washers between my brackets and fenders front and rear. Got them from a local hardware store.

The rubbing will still thin down the plastic inserts. I'd blue locktite the bolts so they don't fall out and lose that interference fit of the screw to threads.

Like Sven says blue Loctite (2440) and torque (13 Ft-Lb) to specs should do the trick. If it continuous then I would check the torque (12 Ft-Lb) on the pinch bolts on the bottom Tree, they could be loose causing the forks to move. If they are loose you need to check your Fall Away.

Hope that helps
