Between you and I, please say nothing to no one, they won't believe you. I'm talking about the squids out there. Here is real junk science from Cody the meat puppet is looking at all those dickheads and their oil threads, thinking that some oil additive in the oil will make the bike last longer... here comes the junk.
It cost me the burning of skin off my arms to find out about DTT or computer function. So first bike was the crash mule and that bike burned oil because of a hard break-in. Mistake One. Second bike became test mule2 and again, hard break-in, maybe I didn't do it right? I changed it up a little. Mule2 burned oil so bad, I kept on adding oil before an average dump of oil @ 2,700mi. I trade that bike in for Mule3 the current bike. I break this bike in by the book. Not one drop of oil or sight window loss of oil come a 3k oil change interval.
Meanwhile the junk going on were [also] these huge air cleaners to keep the air flowing at over 170mph test pulls. So say the average was about 135mph runups in short spurts were all 3 mules taking this abuse. Mule3 was broken in and now these [dyno like] pulls were going on with hack after map and you get the idea what the computer would react to hack after hack, combo hacks, hacks with maps, etc.
Imagine the OEM air cleaners were coming out like out of the package almost. I could see what the bigger after market pleat would bring into the V of the OE pleats. Mistake Two pops up in the junk of the science. Mule1 has her compression tested. Book is checked hot @ 149 - 228 psi. The bike dials in at 220 psi with a cold test. So that little bit of oil was keeping the compression up that high I would imagine. Still not bad seeing that number and taking a guess of how much oil was leaking past those rings. That's hard break in. Mule3 is 241 against 261 on the high end, low end is 170 and change. Again, a cold test vs hot in book numbers.
Where the junk of tests continue with the oil after the 600 mile break in. Bike takes 4qt to fill. All 3 bikes were receiving 2qt 50w racing oil. The behind the scene oil deals back then were if you were a B rider you received just a few cases. They had me in A rider grade and I received unlimited cases. So imagine all those years going by changing bike and car oil with this aging 39 year old oil; as I experiment with oils and break in procedures and find out for myself about some answers to engine life.
To close with the junk in hand, Cody is sort of rubbing their noses in it for all those dickheads thinking they need to buy some sort of oil is I mix my oils. So junk tops off with any oil that is left around for the other cars. They run 10w30, and some delo from costco. Talk about thick backing down the driveway in gear with clutch in and a dead engine. Butter smooth shifts, and can tell the oil takes a shit about 2,600 miles and that's where the average comes in on the intervals.
In conclusion, extend oil and those carbon particulates etching shit down is dump-dump-dump the shit out. Air cleaner is paramount. Any micron is the incredible shrinking man's bolder about to groove a chunk of wall like a chalkboard scratch down the cylinder wall, acts the snowball down a hill and grows that gap. Now, add those U and V-grooves up. I found out someone had matching miles [almost] and his pushed to 180psi against my 220. Didn't ask if was a warm or hot test?
We are at a gas station and an indigent pops out of nowhere and says to me, "those air cleaners must be important to you." Such an intelligent man had that rolling in his head and I wonder if he figured it out? When others laugh at those things, I have the last laugh.
