Broken bracket on heat shield

I ordered some new baffles from Big City Thunder to put in my Vance and Hines Big Radius 2 into 2 exhaust and was going to install them today. When removing the exhaust from the bike I noticed that the most rearward pipe clamp bracket of the tail piece heat shield had broken off. Is this a common problem? Has anyone experienced this before? If so how do I go about fixing this? Will Vance and Hines replace it? I'm assuming if I take it somewhere to have it rewelded that it would also have to be rechromed.

Yes, happened to my Big Radius 2 into 1 heat shield. Welded it once, bought a new one, and plan on welding the old one in my spare time. I did not rechrome but obviously it didn't last so I'll try again so I have a spare. I used a MIG the first time around.

I wish I was more knowledgeable on welding. I had a semester of it in high school. I would like to get back into it but I haven't had much of a chance to. I sent a question to Vance & Hines website contact and am waiting for a response. I would have to find a reputable place that would weld it... I just wasn't sure if it could be welded without messing up the chrome.

Hey guys I don't mean to hijack but are the BCT baffles really worth all the effort of welding them? Seems too much for the return.. Just asking that's all as I'm considering a set as well.. Thanks..

Easy job, my welder drilled the two wholes (as you would do to screw them in there) we decided it was easier to weld them trhough those two holes than trying to bolt them on. Remember that the BCT will perform at its best as further in into the pipe as possible, 6 - 8 Inches in. Do not mount them at the tails... waste of time.

I've heard good things about them and thought I would give them a try. I wasn't planning on welding them in so if I ever decided to change them out in the future I would be able to. Does the red loctite not hold the retaining screw in place? Is that why you had them welded in Franco? I actually bought the Thunder Monster originals from my 2005 Big Dog Chopper with V&H BR 2 into 2 and the Quiet Thunder Monsters for my 2006 Big Dog K9 with V&H BR 2 into 2. I'll let you know how they sound this spring after I've put a few miles on each of them.

I completed the install on the '05 Chopper with the original Thunder Monster Baffles. It was quite easy. You just have to make sure you follow the instructions that come with the baffles. I ran into the problem described above when I went to install the Thunder Monster Quiet baffles on the '06 K9. I'll let you know the results when all is completed and I get a chance to put some miles on these bikes.

Don´t forget to install (also) the 585 Cam on the K9, or in both!!! :whoop: :old2:

I would like to install the 585 cam in both bikes but I've heard that the '05 has smaller valves in the heads. So would it still be beneficial to install it in the '05 Chopper? Also, what does this cam do for the gas mileage? Worse or better? I'm all about maximizing the torque and horsepower without doing any major engine work. I like to try and keep as much reliability as possible in the engine.

585 Cam on the K9 install. I'll need some good help with that one. Maybe I'll hit up Ker since he's only a few hours away.. I wonder if PK installed the 585?
