2007 Big Dog K-9 - EHC Software

G'day All!!!

My name is Nick & I am contacting you from Australia, hoping you may be able to assist me with an electrical issue with my 2007 K9 Big Dog. The Bike itself is all very new to me with only approx. 4K miles on the clock, as it was gift from my father after he passed away.

I was riding along when I had a complete cut out of power & engine bringing me to a complete stop. I have no diagnostic L.E.D's displaying either.

(prior to this happening many rides earlier I have had a loss in low beam head light, unable to switch from High back to low...)

After a small investigation it appears I require the EHC Diagnostic software to determine the electrical fault in order to review what is required to get her back on the road.

My questions are...

1. Does anyone have the correct EHC Software for a 2007 BIG DOG K9?

2. What is the required amount of voltage required for the ignition switch?

3. Recommended place to purchase a new EHC? (I don't require a wiring loom as I already have the entire bike & setup)

I would really appreciate the technical assistance

P.S.
The loss of low beam headlight had been off for half a dozen rides or more.
Also I forgot to mention, For some time I had been experiencing loss of speedo/ tacho. I would turn the bike off, Then back on & most of the time it would all be back to normal. However I wasn't sure if this was just an unset Calibration?

Hi Nick

Were you able to turn the key off and back on to get her going again?
When you lost your lo beam did it ever come back on or is it just out completely?
EHCs are few and far between these days if you can find one at all.

1) I can get you the software.
2) The ignition switch is a ground only signal so their is no voltage to speak of.
3) R.I.P. kit can replace your EHC all together.

:hi:Aloha from N. Virginia USA. Welcome to the dog pound. Excellent experts here for sure. I had the same problems with my 07 K9. Had to replace the full wiring harness. The best replacements are pretty much plug-n-go. I did a bunch of research on this site and did mine myself. I've had Zero problems since. Good Luck.

If you replace the EHC use a Dead One Customs ESC. This is by far the best plug and play unit out there. Jeff at Dead One Customs will take care of you. I put one of these on my K9 last year, works great and no need for a battery tender anymore. It's 100% plug and play pretty easy to install.

Welcome from Louisiana. First, search the boards and you will find plenty of information on this subject. You can fix this very common issue and Kaptin Amerika is your guy for parts and testing of your EHC.

If its been locked on high beam have you opened your bucket and checked the bulb?
The BD EHC is designed to switch to whichever beam is available should the other beam burn out.
If the lo beam is burned out then it will default to the hi beam.

That's great to know you have had success with getting your K9 back on the road :)

Could you recommend the kit you purchased? & Why you chose them over others? that would be greatly appreciated feedback. Did you receive a new software disk with your kit? Or did the original Big Dog software work on bringing her back to life?

I had Checked the bulb, however I will purchase a new bulb & test to confirm, once shes awake.

:hi:welcome from Pa.:hi:

The latest version of the software in 07' did 2 sweeps of the speedo needle when you turn the key on, the old version only did 1 sweep.
