May be another HD in my future.

Got a call from my Dad over the summer whos retired from the Air National Guard and he said he wants me to have his old Shovelhead one day. I told him that would be great but didnt dwell on it. Well the other day he sends me a bunch of pictures and tells me that its mine and all I have to do is visit him in Idaho and take it home with me. So looks like I'm gonna eventually end up with another bike in the garage, just a matter of finding the time to get out there from New Jersey. Hes kept in in great shape and has all the parts he ever pulled off it. Think this would be a cool thing to have and eventually pass down to my son. Its a 1980 FLH Classic 80, I know hes done a bunch of motor upgrades over the years and fires it up ever couple weeks and still takes it out every once in a while. Mainly he rides his Street Glide, has even come cross country a few times on the bike to visit.

Heres the bike back in the early 80's...

Get it done Man!!! I had a chance to take my Dad's shovel that he built from ground up and had a turbo. I turned it down from the lack of interest in bikes way back when. Now Dad is gone and the bike is as well. Mega, Major regret and it makes me sick not having Dad's shovel in my stable. Make it happen is all I can say....

COOL! Go get it and all the org parts and put it back to org. You will have something that is worth something to everybody. You will always have a piece of him. M y dad gave me his 1970 El cameo and I restored it. Now when I drive it he is with me in spirit. One of the best things I've done....

All I have is pics....
Thats one crazy bike, sorry you passed it up. I'm thinking the same thing, would love to always have it. I think it was his first HD, he had a couple Hondas early in this life. He has also had many Harleys since and got rid of them, apparently this one means something to him to keep it all these years.

Thats great that you have that to remember him, I'm thinking the same thing!!! Not really my style of bike but in its original configuration but love what he did with it. But would be great to have all the parts hust in case I ever wanted to return it to stock.

That's awesome Butch! Don't hesitate, make that happen! Sounds like Dad misses you anyway! :old2:
Yeah John, I'm gonna make it happen, hopping maybe this summer if things work out. Parents got divorced when I was 2 and he moved out west, only saw him a handful of times through my life, but we always kept in touch. Since I kids hes really made an effort to come out to visit even doing 3 cross country rides. I have never had any hard feelings, I know how life goes. The bike means something to him and he wants me to have it so I'm all for it. Thought it was cool as hell that he wants to give it to me, wasnt the best father when I was young, but hes a great guy!!! :old2:

Butch, I have not talked to my father in 4 years now and he's not in the best health from what I hear, the guy has been nothing but a manipulative asshole my whole life, he was into drugs, (using, making and selling) He was in the "Hells Angels" and became the San Jose, Ca. Chapter President, this was not a great time in my life and I wished I just had a father that would do things with me and be proud of me like my friends did, anyway what I am trying to say is sounds like your father is a good man, sometimes shit happens between two people that we don't understand as kids, your Dad is definitely making the effort to be part of your life so don't miss out on that buddy!:old2:
