Double check your wires going to the starter and battery and make sure everything's tight and connected properly, sometimes you over look the little stuff without realizing the first go around. A multimeter would help to see if you're getting power to the starter if you have one. easy way to figure out if you've got a starter issue or no power.

:oldwtf::nonod::panic: OUCH!:nonod::panic: Worst case scenario.:oldnono: . I'm betting on simple stuff, battery, dirty solenoid, maybe even a wire that didn't get hooked back up after the battery was pulled. :here: Come on guys,:oldsmile: get those fingers crossed for Mike! :cheers::old2:

I agree, process of elimination will rule out a lot of possibilities, finding out if your starter is getting power is half the battle. But seriously, half the time on these dogs it's some kind of electrical gremlin it seems. If the bike started and then the battery was taken out or some wires were loosened or removed chances are that's got something to do with it. I would start with connections, solenoid, trying to locate the area that's clicking, make sure no bare wires touching frame, and check the grounds of course. If all seems good, check with multimeter

I did have a no start issue once and it ended up being the big ground cable that's attatched to one of the starter bolts had came loose and wasn't making good contact.

There are a couple of wires that attach to the battery other than the cables, like the Circuit breaker, ignition if you have it wired like I do and others. Make sure that all the wires are hooked up. However, if you have never pulled the battery that would solve that issue, but it you have pulled the battery off or taken the cable off you may have missed that one wire that is give you hell. check around the Battery to make sure there are no wires under the battery or around it that did not get hooked up. :old2:

I had an issue with my starter sometime back that had me stumped. Inside the solenoid there are 2 small bare wires going from the green trigger wire into the solenoid. one of these wires was broken, and the starter would only click when I pushed the start button. Mr Wright solved my problem and advised me to solder the wire back together. No problems since then Shannon is the man with the knowledge to keep us on the road. :yesnod: Thanks again Shannon:old2::old2:

I had the exact same thing happen to me.....you could hear the compression releases engage, but nothing else. My problem was the ehc. It wasn't sending voltage to the starter. I bypassed it and ran a pushbutton to the starter. Now I use the start button to engage the releases and the pushbutton to engage the starter. Not sure if your is the same, but a pushbutton is a lot cheaper thanot an ehc.

IF it started and ran before and you still have the SAME battery, buy a new one. Chances are its the battery if you had to jump it as described. Jmo.

Go to Wal-Mart buy a 20lb AGM battery and you'll cross this off your list a load test isn't great to identify bad cells.

I just bought a new battery for $46 at Wal-Mart after the core charge. Can't beat that with a stick. I don't know if they made a mistake but it's simple thing to do before you begin diagnostic. While your going through the forum you will see countless threads people tearing apart and come to find out the battery was the culprit even tho it tested fine. You can return the battery if you wish after

First check oil level.. for historic reasons.
1. My battery may read 12v, but no amps to push is a load test on the bike.
2. Rather than pull the battery, lay it on a bench and remote start it...
3. ... right, I get out me jumper cables and I hit the starter lug the red cable is hooked up to.

This now eliminates either my starter or battery.
A. I do not crank = Battery.
B. I heat up the jumper cables = Seized starter motor... or engine is my oil level check.
