Tire date code

Well last year i replaced the front tire due to sidewall cracking. This year I thought, lets just check out the rear. May be due. To my amazement i find a 1403 code?? Can i be right that this is the correct code? This means original tire from week 14 of 2003. Yikes. Tire still looks good. But if its a 2003, its coming off! Bike has 6550 miles on her.

My rear is from 2005 and it looks like yours.... Those Avon were alot better than nowadays!!! this winter I might change it. :chopper:

I still have the original rear tire, not much left with my riding style, and it's an 03. Gotta
change it out this winter and will stay with Avon.

In the Potters hand...
Swapped out some 4403 tires back in June from a bike that sat for 2 years. These tires had cracks where cords were pushing through. I spend about $250k on tires annually on the job and don't keep or use anything older than six years.

I've got 9000 miles on my rear but it's getting thin. So take 9000 miles devided 12 years equals 750 miles per year.
I bought it in March with 5486 miles, this is 3500 plus in 7 months. I still have NO dry rot.

Either ride it or sell it. It will lose value from sitting, it's not an investment.

I'm changing for fatigue and stress on the tire.

sorry, but do not agree. first 2 digits= week of the year and second 2 digits= last 2 digits of the year manufactured.

That would be incorrect, 1st 2 are the week and the 2nd 2 are the year. 2113 would be 21st week of 2013

Funny Shit! But this thread is a no brainer. Its getting replace this winter b4 she comes off the table in the spring!

I agree 100% about riding it more - I do need to do that. Its been troublesome the first year and a bad weather summer the second. I love the chopper - id rather keep it even if it sits too much than recoup 10k and regret not having it anymore. That's why I'm on my 2nd black 2003 BDM Chopper. I regretted selling the first and was lucky enough to get a 2nd chance!

Possibly. the date stamp is near the D.O.T. number, so if it's close to that then that's probably what it is. If its not close to the D.O.T. number than I don't know what it is.

anyway you look at it, that is one old fuckin' tire. it would have been made late March/ early April on 2003. THAT'S 12 AND A HALF YEARS OLD !!!!!!!
