I rode my bike for the first time tonight since getting it back from the shop where it spend three months getting fixed up. I salivated for this ride. I had pristine out of character for the season riding weather in Ohio. I started the bike after topping off with gas and the starter kept engaging over and over despite tuning the ignition off. The battery shorted out and started smoking. I thought for sure there were flames to follow. The fire department removed the battery without incident. I was a tad embarrassed to have four fire men and two cops show up simply to remove the battery but I also firmly believe it is better to be safe then sorry.

Your saga doesn't end! Do you have a slam button? Sometimes that isn't adjusted right and pushes in the solenoid.

damn, i am sorry to hear that. but YES it is better safe than sorry. hope it is just a simple fix, much better than going through the insurance company trying to get it replaced.
