Electrical issue!!! Headlight and Tach/speedo shut off and reset while riding, engine keeps running.

Hello All! Before you say it, I've already switched from the EHC to the PDM. No issues for two tears other than "no cancel turn signals". She was starting fine and then all of a sudden while going down the road the headlight and tach/speedo would shot off and then after about 10 seconds the spedo and headlight would come back on with the speedo jumping to 60 like when you first tuen the bike on. Fine for a minute then repeat. Never lot the running lights. Any ideas?

If the speedo is turning back on and jumping to 60 it is probably a intermittent loose power, ground connection.

Is the bike fuel injection?

Clean and check all of the battery terminal connection wires.

Did you ever figure out the problem??? The headlight issue can be very dangerous to say the least! I have heard of some people being seriously injured or killed because of there headlight failing! Personally I would not ride at night at all! You really should consider going with a new controller and dumping the PDM! I was having intermittent problems also and had my EHC tested and was told it was 100% rock solid! So now after the install of a new system everything works great! Not to say I could have had an issue in the harness, but at least I know that I am not at the mercy of the EHC anymore!

I must say the EHC is the first thing people blame when something goes heywire.

Had the same problem on my 03 Chopper. Ended up being just a dirty connection next to the ECH.
I cleaned all the connections with electrical contact cleaner and all is well. Atleast for the past 6 months

I´ll say it once again...... Always make sure ALL CONNECTIONS ARE CLEAN & TIGHT!

Agreed. This be the cover my ass in Chubspeak 100 words or less or more essay lol.

1. Usually a single wire is the fault.
2. No parts are broken, not working as in shorted out, but they come back online means a loose wire.
3. Tell-tail-sign: My speedo zeros out as if I turned the key on, the speedo cycles the analog needle = Loose wire bumps back online is 12v lost at the dash panel or on down the line.

A. Back-probe the hot wire up to the dash connector, shake the black box connectors at the box... This starts at A going up to B.
B. The connectors in between the speedo and black box is jerk those connectors up to the speedo and watch the test light blink or go out.
C. I have 3 basic variables that begin building the troubletree roots:
1. Connector not connected... Not it.
2. Wire out of connector... Possibly it... but say its sub-root is male to female is intermittent at the pins.
3. Signal out of range or short... Not it.

Check the connections under the tank going from the main harness to the forward wiring.

In addition, always add a dab of di-electric grease to every connection, JST and all others, before putting them back together.
The JST connectors are water and dust resistant but they do dramatically better with a little di-electric grease in them.

I lost my head light last weekend at about 20 miles from home. I't was DARK to say the least. I have read and heard
that Big Dog's have a problem with grounds, sure enough 3 wires looked like they were dead ended. However upon checking
they were frickin GROUNDS and the terminal had broke. This repair fixed 3 or 4 issues I had been having.

ALL is well now...waiting for winter before I rip it apart.
