Having transmission shifting issues

Got the bike on lift back tire off the ground. I took off primary cover to inspect. I did adjust the shift rod out and spun the back tire and can go thru all gears????????

I went throught the same. I tried to avoid the inevitable. The real test is to remove the belt to release the tension. You also have to remove the pressure plate and clutch pack. Then grab the mainshaft. Try to move it in/out, up/down. Any movement at all then you need bearings.

just a thought, you say it shifts up to 3rd but no higher. third is the last of the helical cut gears and 4th is the first of the straight cut gears. it could be that the shift fork just needs a little massaging to get it back into alignment. never have had the situation happen so i can't tell you how to do it but it might be a place to start.

I can shift thru all gears when I turn the back tire. ( on lift)The first time I took bike out on Saturday got about 10 miles with no shifting issues. Then all sudden couldn't get into 4th. Got bike back home adjusted shift rod in a little bit took bike back out all ok again for a few miles then it did it again. Had bike on lift all gears when shifting no issues????

Ahh yes! Now I am feeling the love! Lol! Just to let you guys know it was 81 degrees last night and I was out riding for a few hrs and couldn't help but think about you guys that cannot ride all winter long! Damn, I though that sucks ass big time! Lol! Oh well, I guess we all have good and bad about where we live, obviously for us, states like California and Florida have their benifits! Whooohooo!

Maybe overthinking,,,,,,,,,ok here is some more history thinking back few months ago was riding and about 1/2 way during a ride (75 miles) I couldn't shift into first had to finish ride always starting in second.......this was just after I added 2 1/2" forward controls. I did notice that the shift rod would hit down tube had to adjust rod to just barely hit in order to get full motion to be able to get in 1st. Now I'm just wondering if I'm not getting full travel with rod to get all 6 gears...... tell me if that sounds dumb ass...lol educate me

no, not dumbass. that's just running every possible scenario before you start tearing things apart. seems like i remember that happening to someone else before. seems like you have to cut the spacer shorter to get it to clear the downtube, or something like that. good luck!

Ok UPDATE........ I cut down the spacer to clear the downtube. Now back to the shifting issue. I did check Trans level was little low took care of that. Had primary off checked what I could on clutch pack and chain all looked good. ( back of my mind I was thinking about the clutch hub nut. Just thinking keep it simple. Went back to hemi joints and found out the rear hemi was getting binded and not moving freely. Soaked in wd40 reinstalled checked to make sure both Trans shifter and foot shifter were at 12 position. Good to go. As I was testing rod on a ride is when I noticed the binding. Hope this is the fix. Thanks for everyone who threw out suggestions hope this may help somebody that has the same issue.

It's the simple things that always seem to be the biggest problems. I know I fought Snipers K9 for a week, after adjusting the clutch and adding forward controls. Everything was where it should have been, and just before we were going to pull the top off the transmission, we found that nut next to the shifter loose. Tightened it up, and all was well.
