K&N filters ( 1800-858-3333 will net tell me about microns in filter

I called K&N today to inquire about the micron rating for the 170c filter. I was told by customer service that information is considered "proprietary" and will not be shared. That's bullcrap ain't it

Well I'm waiting on S&S oil filter form Amazon. Some members here say the k&n 170c is okey to run in our bikes, but I could not find the micron rating for said filter. Thanks, Ken

  1. The KN-171 filter has a nominal micron rating of 25, meaning it will capture 25 micron particles with at least 50% efficiency. The filtration efficiency of the KN-171 at 5 microns is 3%. The KN-171 also has 165 sq.in. of filter area, partially the reason it flows 25% better than the OE, paired with a bypass that opens at 14psi. .
  2. The equivalent Harley Davidson filter is 95.8% efficient at 5 microns and 98.6% at 25 microns. It also has 63 sq.in. of media and a bypass that opens at 10psi. This means the Harley filter will run in bypass mode for a significant portion of its installed life, whereas the K&N will allow oil to flow through the filter for a longer period of time
  3. With that being said, No one on here has had any problem with the K&N filters, and I would recommend them to anyone.
    If your worried about it, get with the Kaptin, at Wild Steed Worx , he is a vender on here and get the reusable canister oil filter he has. It is the only one I know of that is better than the K&N

So are you saying the K&N "170" I'm inquiring about has the same micron rating as the K&N "171" you quoted ? Thank you

I'm a dork about some things....haveing a reusable stainless filter and a Scavenger that lets me change all four quarts of oil comes with intuitive and measurable positive results.

If I have an religion, it's mechanical lubrication. My first oil change with the stainless filter pulled out bits from my last paper filter. Adding the scavenger makes sure I leave less old crap when I change. As much as I spend on chrome and shit, I haven't looked back on that stuff....stainless washable filter, scavenger, and the best synthetic lubes (red line).....and I change em at 3k.

I can't attest to results. I beat the Shit out of my dog every time I mount her so too many variables. But after almost 20k miles it's running better than new :)
