Crank case breathers question

Hello everyone. I have a question about crank breather line on my 2000 Big Dog Vintage Sport with TP 107'' pro series engine. So, I have two breather line on my engine. One is located on the engine case (near to oil pump) , second is on heads which have to be conected to the air filter. Question is can I plug breather line on the engine crank case breather and keep open breathers on the heads? Or both breathers should be open? What is engine crank case breather for? All Harleys I got before did not have crank case breather on the case only on the heads. Will appreciate your help. Nice day.

Per S&S manual you only need to have head breathers crank is optional. Technically....I just don't know you wouldn't run both however

It is S&S tear drop air filter I use. The problem was I had big oil leak from crank case breather during my head breathers were pluged by air filter mounting bolts when engine was running. So, I pluged crank case breather and unpluged heads breathers and oil leaking is stoped.

You can leave them both open. Doesnt have to be one or the other

You will get some shouldn't be a lot though. I suspect a few drops each time you stop. Some folks run a catch can, I just route my crank hose to the ground and yes it does make it messy but a quick wipe of the rag every once in a while is what it takes. Although if your running the S&S teardrop you can just run the crank breather hose to the backplate slightly less messy.

If it leaks a lot than you got a problem.

I am curious ...how did you "unplug" the head breathers? The engine you have should breath through the head via the air cleaner mounting bolts, they are banjo style. Did you replace the bolts?

That's good to know! I just don't understand why anyone would plug a breather to me it was designed for a reason.

The problem is when I got the bike it were normal bolts installed instead banjo style in head breathers. That was strange for me also. And when I first time started bike I observed big oil spot and oil was laeking utill I stoped the engine. Later on I pluged crank case breather located on the engine case and intstalled banjo bolts to the heads breather. Oil leaking stoped.
