What do you think would be a fair offer on this bike?

The price will depend on wheather you are buying it to fix and resale or to fix and keep. I would think if you just want something to do over the long cold winter you may offer him a bit more. You know how expensive things are so the cost to fix will add up quickly. And don't forget about the hidden cost that will pop up.

Not a cent more than $3000 for this new compact chopper :)

While I could hear the $4k arguments your gonna spend at least $4-5k in parts and paint etc. So why have 8-9k and the hassle when you can have a great looking bike with no backyard engine work and frame work for 10?

$10,000 is way too high. I got my 05 Chopper with 9400 miles for $7200 last year and it was ready to ride. Put on a new front tire due to dryrot, and a new plate bracket and front pegs just cause they were scrapped up. If I didnt go for that one I was in tanks for an 04 in New Hampshire that was mint with 8000 miles for $8000. Keep looking in my opinion unless hes willing to cut it at least in half.

something that seems to be missing here is the question "has this bike been totalled by the insurance co." if so, it will not go back on the road without a salvage title. value when fixed will be about half what you have in it.

I would only buy it for parts and low ball him. A wrecked bike is useless to him. A bike sitting there for 4 years isn't going to appreciate in value as it continues to pit and tarnish and dry rot gaskets.....

Thanks for all the reply guys. I think I am going to take Kickstarts advice and let sleeping dogs lie. I was going to post a link to his ad on cycle trader but I could not find it this morning. It either expired or was pulled. There is something funny about the whole deal. You can see the bike is totaled so I figure the insurance company paid it off but he claims to have a clear title. Unless the laws are different in Diluth Min.it should be a salvage title.

He claims it has a Kevlar clutch in it. I have never seen that discussed on this forum.

The frame has been welded in three places and the welds do not look all that good.

Ever hear of a heavy duty rear sprocket?

He also claims to have $10,000 in the motor. But also claims it puts out 110 ft. Pounds of torque. Sounds a little on the low side to me.

Too many thing not right about this one.

Thanks again guys.

Joe, the guy told me he has a clear title. The bike is now reposted on cycle trader. He dropped the price to 8,500 still way over priced.

Kevlar Clutch is nothing new it's just Kevlar woven into the friction plates pretty common these days and since its an 03 any Harley Softail Clutch works.

If the welds are bad it sure isn't worth anything other than parts. I would tell him when you get sick of no offers Gove me a call and I'll buy it for $3

Forget it Frank and just walk away. I don't see how he can have a clean title with a wrecked bike unless the incident wasn't reported to the police. Better yet I would turn and run. if you don't run and you do get it we will be hearing about this for the next 3 years;)

6500 would be more than fair, the tubes are a bit "tweaked" and you got to figure thecking the trees very close.

run the vin and check the hot list, just in case.

Way too much IMO

Welded frame and Wrecked forks. Not a penny more than $4,000 and most likely just part it out

I am done with it. Don't worry Paul not three more years. You guys are correct it is a parts bike. I have a large enough collection of junk around.

Thanks again guys.
