Mystery Broken Piece

Found this under the bike on the lift while putting in the new clutch plate today. This was after I put it all back together and bike was sitting on the lift so not sure If it was there before. Can't be from inside the primary since its chrome.

It has 1/4x20 threads and it's 5/8 wide. Looks like a tab to the clutch cover but it's not that or primary cover I checked everywhere and can't see anything that's broke.

Handlebars - nope
Clutch actuator cover - nope
Primary cover - nope

Looked at a spare starter and nothing 1/4" . Very weird.

I know you said you looked at the Primary, but it looks like it's from the primary...or the inspection cover....I just did my clutch not too long ago as well....

Never good when you end up with extra parts after a fix. No idea but hope someone will recognize it.

It looks threaded as well. Did you look at your belt cover and ball and ramp cover? I know you had to adjust your clutch after....it looks like it's from the right side of your bike....

Yep it is threaded 1/4"x20.

Checked the clutch adjustment cover too! All three tabs are whole on the cover. I think those are 5/8 bolts anyways.

If it AIN'T the starter, my best, educated guess (after 4 Heinekens), is it is off the INSIDE primary cover....the shape/curve, thread size and everything seems to match up....hate to be the devil, but you may have to drain and pull the outer cover again.....but there doesn't seem to be anything else threaded except the starter and the INSIDE primary cover....

IF it is indeed from the inside primary, when you go for a ride and your primary leaks....you will know.....cheers.....

How clean or dirty was it when you found it? That would give you an idea of where it may be on the bike. If its filthy, then Id say it was along the frame under the engine. If clean, then you probably wipe it regularly, maybe open area around the engine.
