I use a set of channel locks with a rag around the gas cap ,also try loosening it in the morning or when it's not hot outside ,, landmark sells the new caps that fit

Not intending to hijack this thread, but rode about 900 mile this weekend and two mornings I went out to the bike ('06 K9 w/ 22,000+ miles) there was a streak of gas approximately 6" long behind the gas cap on the top of the tank. Question: Do the threads in the cap eventually wear down and allows for this seepage? Fix? Thanks in advance!

Its not that we "only" want to sell it that way.
The manufacturer has given us no choice either.
I have people asking if we will just sell them the left hand cap also but we just can't do that.
We would end up with a host of pieces that we would not be able to sell.
These caps are a rare find as it is and there is not a huge demand for them.
Hopefully you can find one here. There are quite a few generous folks on here that have helped a number of forum members.

use the rag/channelocks as said above.( righty loosey)
when you get it off, pry the snap ring out , and clean/lube the ratchet assy.
reduce the spring pressure , and it wont tighten as tight on the 'O'ring ..
PP design , but fixable.
did both caps on my 01 as they were stuck bad.
now two fingers to open

Ok thanks I'll try that in the next couple of days

Thanks Curtis! Just so I am clear. It comes with both left and right, in addition to the paint savers? Do I have to replace the paint saver to make this work? Thanks again!
Yes the kit comes with a left and right cap and a left and right paint saver.
No you do not have to replace the paint savers.

So I tried it worked great and to the paint saver out then I washed cleaned and lube up cap assembly and o ring and tested it a couple of times before putting the saver back in but the cap still gets tight and almost can't get it off should I go to a smaller o ring thanks in advance or maybe a Harley cap

Hi Curtis... Just placed the order for the gas caps. Should I remove and pitch the "white" inner piece?

I just packed your order and then saw this post.
You only ordered one ratcheting gas cap.
Did you mean to order the gas cap set?

I don't think you took the paint saver out....if you did almost any Harley cap will fit.
