Shifting flat and rough down into one...

Energy One
Last year I had a guy adjust my clutch and change my fluids...I didn't ride it at all because I blew the compression releases - well, now when I downshift and try to get into first, between second and first feels like theres no pressure, and nowhere to go unless I shift up, let off and try and wind it way down, then occasionally I can shift down into first. Any ideas? Bad clutch, simple adjustment, fluid? Everything else is smooth when going, its only at low speeds and low gears.

Thanks

Right behind the shift lever, is an adjustment nut with what looks like a bolt going through it. Don't mess with it,. As in don't loosen it and try adjusting it, but a wrench on it and see if it is tight. I have one a couple months ago that would shift, and found that nut loose. Tightened it and all was well. You will need a manual if it got to far out of adjustment.
Try that and we'll go from there.

Make sure the shift rod ends are well lubricated and the linkage is adjusted properly. This is from the manual "Visually line up the shifter pedal with the front brake lever by loosening the jam nuts and turning the linkage rod. "WARNING" Failure to line up pedals may result in an inability to shift up or down. Most of the time is them rod ends that need a little oil, take the bolt out and make sure they move freely.

X2, I have to spray mine twice a year with WD40 or similar.

Sorry guys! I rode about 400 miles this week and its still bad. I sprayed the ends which were pretty tight, but nothing has changed. I did however notice that I'm missing two primary bolts up front, and its leaking fluid like a sonofabitch. I've got oil all over my rear wheel on the left side. It seems to be coming out of a half inch hose, and I'm starting to think the guys who did the fluid changes overfilled it. I need to just take this bike to an expert on big dogs and have it gone through. The shifting only happens after riding for about 15 minutes, if i'm just tooling around its fine. If I had to explain it, its like i try to downshift, it won't click, it just bottoms out, and won't shift. I have to shift back up, not let off the throttle and then shift down, and sometimes it'll work. I'm frustrated at my lack of mechanical inclination.

I remember years ago a friend of mine filled his HD gearbox with too much oil, when engine warmed up, he couldn't shift......

Let me get this right... under 15 minutes I can rip thru the trans, find N without breaking my ankle, nor need to keep shifting up and down to find 1st gear, right?

This oil leak... was the bike sitting for long? This happens to this type oil pump, right? The bag oil drains into the crankcase, start the engine and there is a puddle out the breather tube. Where is the bag oil level now?

You would think that might need an adjustment or whoever set the clutch up, but that 15 minute window says it's not out of adjustment if 15 minutes says... see what I'm saying?

That clutch adjustment was the last thing done to the bike, just saying, so do we have an easy pull out of 1st to N? The clutch pack heats up, expands, hasn't fully expanded under the 15 minute warm up window... is just guessing at that 15 minute gap.
