Testing Stator

So when I checked the stator resistance I get a reading of 0.4, so if i am doing this correctly, "which I am not sure since my M.M. doesn't have an RX1 scale", it just has a ohms symbol on it so I am assuming that is the correct position, anyway according to this I have a shorted out stator, right?
When I did the test to see if it's grounded I got no reading, does that mean "infinite resistance"? I'm not completely sure, any help would be great so I don't burn up the new VR that Carlos is sending me, thanks!

You have it on the wrong setting that measures ohms. Switch your mm Down 2 to the speaker looking insignia then perform the test. If the mm beeps that means you have continuity no beep no continuity. Hope that helps

I am not completely sure how you measure the resistance but I think you are right with measuring it on ohms

That is the correct setting to measure resistance.

What you described only detects continuity.

Rx1 is just the scale but your meter is fancy it supposed to adjust on its own. You are on the correct setting.

Yes and no. Your meter is set correctly to measure continuity. The particular meter you have doesn't need an "RX1" scale because it adjusts itself automatically. So, the lower the number the more continuity you have. A dead "short" would be "0" ohms. Before you test the stator leads touch your meter leads together and see what you get (it'll probably be .1 or .2 ohms). Subtract this reading from what you get when testing the stator and that will give you the actual stator resistance.

Correct. No reading like what you're showing in the pic means over range or super high (infinite) resistance. In other words, your stator has NO short to ground!

Got the VR last night and installed it, was a little harder that expected but it went good, fired it up, tested the VR, it held the voltage to 14.25 volts when I reved it up, took it out for a short ride, (constantly looking to see if anything was on fire! Lol!) checked the voltage after I shut it down and it was at 12.98 volts! Seems all is well, looking forward to riding this weekend, or maybe today! Lol! Thanks again Carlos for your help, it is greatly appreciated!
