Cover Under Seat........

Not sure what the proper description is for it but I think the dealer called it , electrical cover. Dealer called me to say the covers are being checked for chips and cracks do to nonsufficent brackets. If a cover is in anyway dammaged it will be removed, sent to BigDog to be replaced and painted to match, resent to dealer and refitted with new brackets. If the present cover is not dammaged it will be removed and fitted with new brackets all at no cost to owners. I'm not sure what all models this applies to so you may want to check with your dealer on this, positively K-9s.

Yeah this has been a constant battle for folks... seems to be more with K9's than anything.

I think they replaced some of the metal ones with the rubber ones... that those were the fix. Not sure though. I know ACM dealership lost one of mine... made them replace it.. but they did with one that doesn't fit for shit! FUCK THEM!

when mine broke they had to exopy the cracks and then do the update. they couldn't send it back for replacement or paint because of the one-off custom paint. one of the pit falls of having your ride repainted.

TRUE COLORS COLLISION
i just did mine myself with new old style rubber grommets and when takin it in for the strut bolt recall they changed the grommets again to a red silicon grommet with a aluminum pin the size of around a 1/2 inch bolt goin through it to hold into place, from the engineering standpoint of the new design i see the battery covers would be able to vibrate and shake along with the bike and probally not break up the covers, all you have to do is tell your dealer and they will replace these grommets free of charge

i had the same problem on my bulldog. put in for replacement and bigdog said they would replace the side covers but not pay for the custom paint. after a month and alot of phone calls, bigdog steeped up to the plate and is paying for the paint. the new covers have a pin and grommet instead of a bolt connection. it takes some time time to get the covers because bigdog has to paint them. mine took 4 weeks even knowing that the would be repainted at the dealership.

I went through this with my 05 chopper, having the side cover replace and painted.. The belt slapped it when the pivot bolt snapped. It took them two months!! The whole riding season in Va.. So I get my K-9, take it out one time, go to clean it and noticed the side cover was broken!! I told the dealer that I would have them replace it during none riding season!!!!

Side Cover Fix?

I was talking to the dealer today, prep for shipping my Dog home, spoke to the mechanic... He said that he was doing a new warrantee job before shipping, "side cover" fix, just came out.

Then after coming home tonight, read this thread - same problem?

Just picked up my replacement set of warranty covers and they have made some improvements. First of all the top two ears on each cover are twice as thick and they beefed up the thickness of the fold over crease along its full length. Kind of like a plastic weld along the inside of the crease.

As mentioned in post #13 above, top two grommets have gone from a 1/4" hole up to a 5/16" hole and made of some softer red silicon type rubber. Now instead of a banjo bolt they just use a 3/8" pin that sticks down through where the bolts used to be. This pin has a shoulder on top to keep it from falling through and a small shoulder on the bottom to keep your side cover from falling off.

This looks like it will fix the cracking problem but also looks like something that could easily wear out with vibration and then there is little or nothing stopping your side cover from falling off. We will see how this second replacement set of covers work out.

this has been an ongoing problem since 05.the pin and grommet you are talking about will fail so have a few on hand.fyi for everyone,,if you have to use any kind of force or pulling to get the holes lined up,the tabs will crack!! if you have the lower adjustable bracket type dont be afraid to bend that thing around & move the pins.this problem was so bad that i had unpainted covers in stock to loan customers while theirs were being fixed...peace,Anthony
