Rear of SS 107 Bolt

Greetings

On the rear of the SS 107 engine right next to the oil pump there is hex bolt with a nut on the outside of it. It looks like it is leaking oil. What is this for? I have been fixing this bike for the last 3 months with it's oil leaks and "you are pissing me off" issues. This is the last issue. I can't say for sure if this is where it is leaking from but still want to know what the bolt is for.

Like I said, I can't be for sure this is where it is leaking from but it is the nut between the 2 hoses in the photo.

Looks like your crankcase breather fitting broke off. Maybe your non-return valve was hanging low and got hung up on a stump the last time you went off road. Could have taken the tube and part of your fitting with it.

Not only do you have a leak, but all kinds of dirty crap will get into your crankcase until you replace it.

Looks like a plug to me, not broken. Remove, clean and reapply with Teflon tape.

Although opening it up and running a hose to the ground may help your oil issues too rather than leaving it closed. Stock the 107 breathes through the head bolts into the air cleaner and the crankcase breather Is routed to the back of the aircleaner as well. Now you have me curious since you been chasing leaks what air cleaner you running and are you sure the mount is correct the one with banjo bolts? An aftermarket air cleaner with a mount made for a SSW+ is not correct that's why I ask. Per S&S You can block one or the other breathers but not both, I've had better luck running with both open however.

That IS the crankcase breather. My 03 looks exactly like that BUT I used a hose so the lower end could breathe
and not force all the pressure up to the rocker box vents.

Thanks. When you added the hose did it help reduce the oil in the air cleaner? BTW - the Air Cleaner is the Stock S&S. I checked all the hoses and they are all good.

image.jpg I am glad you reposted to you're thread. I could not find it the other day when I looked for it. I was cleaning my bike over the weekend and got to looking at the fitting you referred to. It is a crank case breather. You're fitting is broken off and I would bet if you check the hose and broken fitting are hanging there some place. Mine has a hose attached that runs up to the middle oil line that goes into the oil tank. Make sure you use the center line on the oil tank. It is made to let the lower end breath and equalize the tank and the crankcase pressure as the oil circulates. Hope this helps.

YES!! much less oil in the air cleaner... I ran the hose up then back down and dropped it about one inch below the frame.
Like the old draft tube, so far no oil on the wheel with about 500 miles on it.
Mine had a barb fitting then it was plugged off.
