Law mandated repair time?

OK so I am hot as hell and starting to go off on everybody. Does anyone know if there is a law that protects us on a timely repair? I have been searching all the michigan government sites and reading up on as much as I could find on auto and motorcycle repair and all that is mentioned is that they must complete in a timely manner. What the hell is timely? 1 month 3 months or how about going on 7 months. I have contacted the insurance adjuster, and have moved on to my region manager to resolve this and I am not happy. The insurance company has been great as far as allowing everything to be replaced with exactly what I want but the repair shop is just dragging there asses. Don't get me wrong the work that they are doing is great when they do work. The insurance company as of lately has jumped on board with these repair shop pricks by telling me that these special parts take time to get. And yesterday I finally told her to fuck off and I said I know they take time to make but if it takes you 3 months to order them what do you expect? Supposedly all they are waiting on is the front brake caliper so I stop by and see if this is true and find they still need to order brake line, make spacers for the front end (which was there excuse last weekend). Anyway sorry about the rant here but I honestly do not see the next Friday delivery date happening so I must start my own retaliation.

My bike was in the shop for 6 months getting fixed. There is no reason for it. Complete bullshit.

Al - You have every right to be the way are towards what's going on! I feel for you, not tryingto dish out sympathy but I'll help you out in making a few calls here locally to see how they do it here and you should be able to go in the right direction for the answers you are looking for. Understood that the laws may vary from state to state I wouldn't think that they would vary that much.

Fail to perform repairs in the time promised or in a reasonable time period.

Not sure how much good it will do but at least I will sound smarter.

Al Wonder if the shop is using your bike to promote sales till the weather breaks? At this point I would of put the insurance company in your shoes.Then pulled it out of the shop to finish it. You should have warranty on there workmanship rite?

I could have done it in way less than that but thats not an option if you have my insurance company. I am fully aware of my capabilities.

District manager from Progressive paid the shop a visit and called me from there and offered to pull the bike right there and then. I told him that would be fine if the bike goes to me but he said he would have to take it to another facility of my choice due to there policy. Bike is 98% complete so I told him what is there completion date. He told me if I was willing to give them one more week he would personally follow up with them every other day to make sure they are on track. So at this point I said OK but I will pull it if I hear any more of there bullshit.

Um...when your bike is finished Progressive writes you a check. You're SUPPOSED to use that check to pay the shop and it's for the full amount minus any deductible. I'd sit down a figure out a day rate for not having the bike, cite the law in michigan, write them a check for less that you owe them (the shop), write PAID IN FULL on the memo line. If they cash it, they're screwed, if they don't, tell them I guess they'll get to hire an attorney and fight your UAW lawyer who's kinda bored lately anyway (wink wink).

Make sure the bike is in your garage and "inspected" first

I did this once with a f-150 lightning I had that wasn't fixed right. I took it to another shop who said it would take about 800 to finish it. I withheld 1600 just in case and told them if they didn't like it I guess I'd see them in court. Never heard a word and they cashed the check.....

Sorry to hear about all this BS And Pros idea is great if they make the check just to you but they usually make it out to you and the shop Good luck either way
