Just venting

Came home tonight after a very frustrating day at work and decided to start drinking... Really contemplating retiring and can't believe some of the crap that is happening! Asked myself today after 22 years in the military if I should keep going. I have always enjoyed things and the life but I may be ready to go??

Hope this is only temporary but things just seem to suck...not really sure what I am going to do after the military already working at getting certified as a welder and shit I have already welded underwater.. So who knows..

Thanks for listening I almost quit drinking but today called for a ice cold jack and coke! And nobody likes a quitter!

What ever you decide, get your certifications done! When I was in the service, it was service before self. My wife made me realize that I wasn't doing anything for myself in order to prep for retirement, so she pushed me into getting my degree done and all the licenses that I currently hold today. Without her and the pushing she did, I wouldn't have the high paying job. With the years you now have in the military, it's time to take care of you... :2thumbs:

A very close friend of mine just quit after 16 years, I did what I could to try to make him stay 20, but with the incentives he received and the opportunities ahead of him I could not even convince myself. It sure was different during my time in the service but there are lots and lots of opportunities out there now. Do what you feel is right.

Paul, I have 20 in and it is really starting to get harder and harder to go to work considering these new kids coming in.....It is most definitely not the same military that we grew up in!

1++ I'm on ACP Advisernet as an adviser to people coming out of the service and looking for work. It's not easy and there are some things you will not expect. You will need all the qualifications you can get. Check out the site and see what questions/problems they are having. Good luck....

Paul,

I say ONWARD either way, in or out of the Military.... but... make sure you get your full pension b4 you leave... private sector is not as used to be. It all depends on how old are you... I am 50 y/o YOUNG and it seems some people like to think I am already too old....

Good luck Brother... Follow your Heart! :flag:

I have been trying to find people leaving the military. I have yet to find anyone who can help me with this. Seriously Barksdale AFB is 10 min from my office and I have talked to everyone on that base and everyone is clueless about who to talk to. Best advice I have been given is go to the rec room and put a flyer up! If you could find out who I can talk to please do, I'm looking right now to hire and train a service tech!!!!!

Paul.. I feel for you bud, and know exactly what youre feeling and going through.. Only did 9 yrs, but not by choice, my career came to an abrupt end as a result of my spouses actions which landed her in prison. After going through a year of mental torment as a result of the Base CO/XO/CMC trying to throw the book at me as a result of her actions, being treated like complete trash, yet completely innocent, also throw in a 4yr old into the mix, the political politics and lack of support I received as a result of the chain left a really bad taste in my mouth... They tried so hard to bury me, court marshal me, and spent a year trying to build the case while I was treated like garbage. Yet my reassigned immediate chain, Supervisor, LT, and OIC saw the truth in my work ethic and moral compass and tried to support me, they were reprimanded as a result of trying to support me. In the end, I had nothing but good evals, had to get a JAG attorney to defend me as well as my rights as a result of the Base CO/XO/CMC, they filed 3 grievances on the base, and the day before my Court Marshal Article 34 hearing (Pre-Trial) cause I wasn't going to let them win or break me, they dropped all charges. Submitted my re-enlistment request and demanded to get the F off that base, all of my immediate approved, when it got to the CO/XO/CMC they all denied, then sent it back down the chain and made them change their approval to denied, which I still have the chit showing this in my personal keepsake for my military records. At the end of the day, due to being on legal hold for a year and going beyond my EAOS date, the Base XO is over all legal hold personnel, he is required to write an eval when coming off legal hold, they got the last laugh when they marked me as non-retainable.. Yet, no charges, no bad evals, nothing negative in my record. Yah I got my honorable dischange, beni's, and 40k separation pay as a result, but that isn't what I wanted. They listed me as RE-4, which I would have to fight through VA to get that changed.

There's a ton of back story and mental anguish they tried to break me with, embarrass me with, and take me down for, but nothing could stand, the prosecuting JAG flat out told the base they had no case after a year of being under investigation and be treated like a prisoner...

The whole process left such a bad taste in my mouth. I did have a good run and enjoyed my prior 8 years while it lasted, and still wouldn't deter young men and women from making that choice to serve. It helped me grow up and learn responsibility and accountability. But on the flip side, we also need good leaders, mentors, and foundation for our military to help guide the young ones, but its become so political, and myself not being a political guy, made it very hard...

At the end of the day you have to follow your heart and what makes you happy. In 3-5 years, if you follow your heart, you will be able to look back and remind yourself whatever decision you make that it was the best decision you made...

Good luck, and hang in there...

Go to the ACP site and you will find a lot of Ex-military people there. You can even place an ad for people. It's sad with all their training they are having a hard time finding jobs... I've found a few jobs for the guys but its not easy...

When you answer these two questions with a yes it's time to retire.

1) Do you have enough?

2) Have you had enough?

Good luck with your choice :flag:
