With other bike names being resurrected, any chance there'll be new Big Dogs ???

Hey guys, I'm kinda thinking out loud here.... anyway, with some brands from the past being recreated or resurrected, do you think that someone with deep enough pockets would ever try and bring back Big Dog ??? Maybe take off right from where they left off ? Wonder if the rights to the name are available or even obtainable ? I guess I can dream of a NEW Dog someday, i sure as shit don't dream about buying another Harley. Back in '94 when I bought my new '95 H-D Bad Boy Springer Softail at least I had some individual satisfaction as each dealer got only one around here, so i didn't see anyone else on the same bike. Maybe something is wrong with me but their new shit just doesn't stir my soul. Think I'm just gonna keep my '03 Chopper and my '05 Victory Kingpin and save some $$$ for a second Big Dog in a few years......just need to figure out what would look good sittin' in the garage next to the '03..... I'm sure the old lady won't care if i get another bike, Shoo :roll::roll:

That subject has been discussed before on this forum. Yes someone does own the naming rights to big dog motorcycles. There was also another statement made that there would never be another bike titled under the name. And yes it would take someone with very very deep, pockets to build bikes like this again. How many people do you know who could lay out 40 grand for a motorcycle these days?

Yeah, I hear you. With the short riding season up here in freezing New York I could never justify the expense of 40k for a new bike. And I can imagine how the quality would suffer if they could be brought down to a price point where they would be affordable to a lot of people. Also, i wonder how many suppliers of parts bit the dust when the market for these kind of bikes collapsed. So I guess for me it'll probably be to look for one of the last few year's models and try and find a really nice one with low miles to keep my '03 company. I think the prices for Big Dogs offer incredibly good deals right now and I think that possibly they will go up in value as time goes by.......Shoo

Hi Frank, I'm not saying that they would be collectable, just possibly cyclic in costs like most things seem to be. I mean back in '73-'75 Kawasaki 900's were the bike to own to be the king, and yes I was a teenager then and saw that first hand, and then as the years went by you could almost give them away. There was a lot of them produced back then too. Almost everyone wanted to trash the original stock 4 exhaust pipes and put on a Kerker 4-into-1 or some other brand like Bassani, etc. Now those original pipes if you kept them all these years are worth a small fortune, or that's what you'd pay if you could find a set. And I almost shit myself when I was looking at bikes on ebay yesterday and a pristine example of an original Kawasaki Z-1 900 was already bid up to $22,000 !!! Who would have ever thought that ? A lot of the old Japanese bikes are bringing really good money. The old Kawasaki 2-stroke triples are bringing some insane prices too, wish I still had mine. I can guess on a near future where baggers or bobbers or whatever is in style over say the next ten years goes out of style and people want mint older choppers and factory customs once again. I just think that maybe the prices for Big Dogs and others are probably bottomed out and i can't see them getting much lower. I feel that over the next several years the interest in our bikes will increase and the prices will rise accordngly. Just my opinion though.... Shoo

I remember the 900 Kaws. I had a 500 inline 4 Honda that I did some work to. The 900s were about the only thing that would beat it in a quarter. I know the prices are crazy now. Just think for that kind of money what kind of big dog you could have.

I wish someone would bring it back, or a similar company come along with some cool bikes. Harley doesn't seem to have any trouble selling there baggers for $30k plus. . Big dog did it right, easy to insure any bank would loan money on them ect. I am not sure what that took for them to get to that level but i'll bet it wasn't easy.

That's what we heard in Daytona too. Too bad the KMW family came down with the flu and was unable to make it down there.

Does sound a bit small business, if a flu in one family cancelles the Daytona show for the whole company though.
