Nice job John,
As far as not trusting the jack, does it not have locking arms on it? Mine has bars that pivot and will go against a stop at whatever height your at, then if the hydraulics fail, these stops are a mechanical backup. The stand looks solid, but casters on it would let you move it. Mine is on the stand now also and I keep it in against the wall and when I want to polish or do something to it, I just pull it away from the wall to work on it from both sides.
Oh by the way, it needs painted to match the bike:D

On the other lifts they just put a small jack under the frame to lift the tire up off the lift.

Thanks Ker, yea my jack has those locking arms on it, but I was looking at it and just thought if one of those cheap bolts or shitty welds break I am screwed! I think castors would be great but I like it being super stable the way it is, if you want to it will actully slide on the concrete floor fairly easy, or just use the jack and lift it up and move it!:D I was thinking about painting it the color of the bike, is there a way to find the exact color Big Dog used? Or I could chrome it!:D Either way I gotta do something, oh and that's what I was thinking those titan lifts might have but I didn't see anything on their website

Hey Kim, I was wondering, how do you work on the bike on one of those titan lifts? I mean you can't remove the tires/rims, etc... you know what I mean, or is there something I am missing? And yea, I probably should patent the damn thing but don't have the sightest idea on how to do that,
"but don't have the sightest idea on how to do that,"

You need to hook up with George Foreman, he knows all about patents:roll::roll:

That didn't cost me anything to make franco, that's why I built it! It was cheap and strong as hell! If you got any buddies over there that have a welder I am sure with a case of beer you could get it done, not sure what the tubing would cost ya, I just used scraps from around the jobsite!

i am thinking this would be great. i have the same lift and its locked on a notch now.

But the lift has all that shit under it, so draining a tranny, or something is hard. this leaves it all open under it.

good point there Mittens. I have basically the same jack and always fight it when I drain the fluids. And yes I did find my old HD on its side once from that jack. didn't have the straps tightened up yet and ran in the house for a minute. Came back out and found the bike on the floor :bang::bang::bang:

Hence the scissor jacks on it. Then I can lift front, rear, or both. The beauty of a lift is that you also have a table for tools/parts. Your idea is great and I love the thought of it, but my current jack has the stops as Ker's has and will do for now. Another advantage with the table is that you lift it be right where you want it. The backside of it is that once you had one, you're completely unable to be happy without one.

Once on the lift, you can easily tilt the bike right/left while adding 1x's and 2x's under the frame. It only takes about 6" of wood the get the tire off the ground. Put the wood under the back of frame for rear wheel, under front of frame for front wheel. Works great - but I agree the scissor jacks would be nicer! Just dont cheap out on them, I have read some cheapo brands threads have failed causing the bike to collapse.

Yea Harley, I was thinking that also, that jack I have is in the way all the time, so your right it will create better access to the bottom of the bike big time! This thing has really turned out to be a lot better than expected!

It really would be good to look into for patent and sell. I would think every person who uses the side jack would want one. You could sell them single or in 3 packs (6", 12", 18") that all slide into each other for ez shipping and storage. :2thumbs:

Joe, your the second guy to say that now, I am starting to think it might be a good idea! I like your idea for the different sizes, very cool :2thumbs:

Not to hijack cdogg's great idea by any means, but here is a similar lift I did last fall and I wanted to share for all you car guys! It lifts 3", 6", 9" or 12". Made out of 2x6's and the footprint is 12" wide and 18" long.

First thing to do is to file a PID (preliminary invention discloser) and the patent attorney will ask you has anyone else seen this? The PID should be filed before anyone see's it, and then it usually takes about 2 yrs for it to be researched and filed if there's nothing else out there like it. You can guess the $$ at this point and then don't forget it costs $$ each year to maintain the patent. Now if some company starts to make this and infringe upon your patent, you better have deep pockets to defend it.
