Hi guys, a bit of a newbie question & I have searched in the search engine, but how do I remove the baffles from my type of exhaust ?? I have loosened everything I can think of & thought the back section would pull off. Any help greatly appreciated, confused :job:

These look to be V&H shotgun pipes. On the inside by the frame on the tail end of the pipe you will have some screws. Remove them. Then with a INside to outside claw of a slid hammer. Put your slide hammer ID claws as far they can reach inside the baffle. Tighten claws so they are opening and grabbing inside of baffle. With a set of vise grips tighten more till the claws are almost tearing at the ID of the baffle. Now slam your slide hammer backwards away from the bike. This may take 10-12 times. The baffles are 18-24" long!

I am not sure what type of exhaust you have but I have Vance and Hines 2 into 2 exhaust and I just took the heat shields off and then removed the set screw at the end of the pipes, then I took a flat piece of metal about 18" long bent an 90 degree end on one end then drilled a 1/4" hole at the other and used the set screw to attach the end with the hole to the baffle from the inside, then took my hammer and tapped the end that I had bent and it popped right out! If it is really hard to pull out you could spray some WD40 in there to loosen things up, but if I had the puller that Jonathan mentioned I would have used it!:D

Yep its a standard pipe but no idea how to take off the heat shield so I can see whats happening. Un did all the bolts I could see & it wouldn't slide off.
P.S. I'm also very dumb

I don't think you can take baffles out of those. The maintenance manual shows them to be a muffler and doesn't show any set screws to remove baffles like our aftermarket exhaust does.

My advice, DO NOT MODIFY THE ORIGINALS !

Go and get another set of oem or aftermarket pipes. and go to town on modifying them. Good idea to pick up a spare set of tapered exhaust gaskets as well.

Keep those originals for Roadworthy / Rego inspection / EPA issues.
Once you change that exhaust and it becomes louder, you have just become a target for the whinging public and authorities to squeeze extra dollars out of you.

Yes they will sound a very nice:)

I must have missed your intro!

Like rhodes_96 said keep the original pipes original, you never know you might need them! Mine came with the originals already modified.
Also change ALL the fluids or at least check that it has been done. I bought my bike from the same place (I think) and I was told that it was done. Lucky I checked believe me, they must have shit mechanic doing the service.

Paul.

Thanks everyone for your help, thats what I was looking for Franco, I had already knocked the 1st baffle plates back a bit & was hoping there was more behind. We don't have any noise problems here so will take them all out. Can't see it being over loud anyway but hopefully better than it is.
Here ya go... I did it when I first got the bike and its awesome.

Then I had to ask for a new set of stock exhaust (Thanks again, Brooks) so I could pass the WOF (keep it in mind)

Now I am running the V&H and every two years I have to do the swap for a day for the inspection.

Cool! big difference for sure! (don´t forget though that there are four plugs! Two on each end of the muffler.) :2thumbs:

Ask on the form on the swap thread if anyone has an extra set of pipes for sale. There easy to install and put these up for inspection time
